Hello all, thank you for admitting me to the forum. I've been reading now for a few months but decided it was past due to create an account and get involved in the conversations. This is my second foray into pipe smoking - I started back in college but now that I've got a few kids running around my interest has been rekindled as a means to more quiet reflection after their bedtime. I've been enjoying the wealth of knowledge here especially in the TAD and tobacco review forums. I was lucky to have a B&M store close to campus and mostly smoked their house blends so it's been fun to branch out and develop my own tastes. Look forward to learning from you all

Hello and welcome from Michigan! I was born here, but I lived in Brownsville when I was 4 and 5 and Corpus Christi from age 5 to 7 before we moved back to Michigan. Long enough and at an age where I had developed an accent that was readily apparent in Michigan

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! It's been a much easier learning curve this time around, I've found a lot more resources here and from the YTPC. Wether it's an improvement in technique/pace or an improvement in tobacco I've had much less tongue bite this go around. I find myself more drawn to mild English blends with C&D Cooper filling most of my bowls at the moment.

It's been a great place to raise a family as we spend a lot more time enjoying the outdoors. Everywhere is growing though, it's unbelievable how much has developed from Padre island up to Rockport.

Padre Island is the location of many of my best childhood memories. I’ve returned over the years a few times and each time I’ve been back in the general area, it’s changed so much I can barely recognize anything. The growth is incredible. I can understand why though.

Welcome to the Patch from NE Texas! We lived in Houston (the Heights) until 3 years ago. I have spent many months working in Corpus back in the late 60s. It seems like after the last big storm, (Harvey?) everything has built up. Rockport isn't recognizable. Same the Hill Country.

Yeah Harvey brought a lot of funding through disaster relief but I think Covid lockdowns really pushed people to look for second properties or just leave big metro areas period. Rockport became a really big retirement destination. I lived in a little apartment on W TC Jester right after college, fun area but even then it was getting pretty pricy. Sounds like y'all timed the market well

Rockport became a really big retirement destination. I lived in a little apartment on W TC Jester right after college, fun area but even then it was getting pretty pricy. Sounds like y'all timed the market well We lived between East and West T. C. Jester for 30 years. First home on Chippendale we bought for 47k and sold for 54k 15 years and 25k in improvements later. Bought on Demilo for 109k, spent 75k on improvements, and sold it for 200k when we moved to Humble in 2005. The first house is now worth 650k and the Demilo house is worth 950k. We could have timed it better. We didn't even keep up with inflation. We lived in a mobile home in Humble for 15 years, just did repairs and paint and doubled our money, but again, inflation. As for Rockport, the storm took out most of the old, paid for houses and the investors swooped in and bought up everything and built huge condo developments.

I work for a utility company and have to make the trip out there every once and a while. There's been a lot of industry growth with Exxon and Cheniere both building their green field facilities within the past five years and the shipping channel will really open up for larger traffic if TxDOT ever finishes the bridge.

Welcome to Tree 16. I hope you enjoy this forum. I never visited Corpus Christi, however in the mid 1970s my girl friend was a native of that place and from a well known family. She was a handful, so watch your step there, eh?
