Welcome! When you try a Virginia, the slower you sip, the better it is. Happy smokes! I just smoked some Virginia Slices by Sutliff in my new Savinelli pipe. You are quite right. It is much better when you sip it slowly but I did not enjoy it. I will age the tobacco and give it another chance. I do not have high expectations though. The next tobacco I will try is Lane's Burley Light Without Bite. I hope to enjoy this one more. Straight Virginia blends benefit from a bit of age. I usually suggest at least a year and sometimes two. Give it a try every four to six weeks along the way in order to experience and learn how aging progresses. For my personal taste, I find that if a straight Virginia tastes papery, then it needs more age. Enjoy and remember that pipe smoking is about experiencing and enjoying the journey and not about reaching the destination.

There is some disagreement about other varietals that benefit with age, but my own opinion is that Latakia blends and burleys with age are more preferential in my opinion.I think Darin really nailed it in a post a few years back about the individual and their PH, we know that tastes are subjective and I think that plays quite a role.Enjoy the journey, find what trips your trigger now, and cellar it away, even a few years age will often change your view on a blend. I do not have Virginia slices on hand...never cellared it, but if you can pm me your address, I would gladly send you some aged tobacco to help you on your journey so that you can realize the benefits of age....We might crumble as we get older, not necessarily with tobacco.

Welcome to the patch. No need to be shy - we don't bite...hard. But Paddy does! Why do think heโs in Europe? Hahaโฆ.๐๐๐๐
