Stormy, a member of this forum, passed away last night after long bout with cancer. His real name was Jerry from Tupelo Mississippi. He was a great guy who had a very rough time the last 5 years of his life. Edited to correct handle.

I do not recall interacting with him on the forum in my short time here, but am sad to hear he lost the battle with cancer. My condolences to those who knew him.

Didn't know him, either. RIP, nonetheless.

Not a charter member at Patch, but long time. Memory not that good but seems he made a final post, wished all a great life, stated his health prevented him from being a regular. Adding sympathy to any survivers
Ed-dunno any way about "archives" even if any kept

2017-2019 on the forum is why I don't remember him, that and mostly posted in the WAYS threads, I miss most of them posts.
Sad that he had such a rough journey, cancer can be hellish...RIP Stormy.

He lost his only child and wife and job in less than a year about 4 years ago. We pray that he's at peace and reunited with his loved ones.

For anyone interested, Jiminks posted a eulogy on the Pipe Smokers Magazine forum site. I met Stormy through Jim years ago.

I am posting Jim's eulogy here. Jerry Spradling, a.k.a. “Stormy” was a long time member of Pipe Smokers Forum, and for a year or two, was a member of the Den. He was a great man: fun loving, devoted to his friends and family, and his cats and dogs. Stormy (as I always called him) rescued many animals over the years, and took good care of them. His love for living beings had no boundaries.
I joined the Pipe Smokers Den in the summer of 2012, and Stormy was one of the first to reach out to me. By the beginning of 2013, we were phone chatting nearly every day, trading tobacco, gifting each other tobacco, and talking about durn near everything that could be discussed between friends.
He suffered through many painfully devastating losses. His wife passed away after a long bout with cancer. The next year, he lost his job of thirty-nine years when the company was sold and restructured. The following year, his only child, Casey, died from heatstroke at age thirty-two while working on a movie set. These tough times would have emotionally crippled a weaker man, but Stormy’s inner strength and life values saw him through them.
I was with him every step of the way, every day, through those events as we formed an unbreakable bond of love and friendship. When my mother passed away in March of 2016, he was continually with me even though he was still working through all the grief he was dealing with. He never let his personal troubles keep him from being a friend to others.
The last couple of years, Stormy dealt with cancer (which was unrelated to his pipe smoking). He fought like a tiger to stay alive even though he was aware it was ultimately a losing battle. He kept me informed of his trials, and near the end, when he couldn’t, his niece Candice did. He passed away Wednesday morning, July 5.
Jerry was a remarkable man who was the kind of friend everybody hopes to have, but seldom does. Even though he is no longer physically with us, he will be with me the rest of my life. Rest in peace, my friend.

Thanks for sharing this, Ron, I don't remember him, but he must have been a really fine man. Surely there's a place in Heaven for anyone who goes through so much hell on earth and maintains a shining sprit. R.I.P. Stormy.
