Breakfast of poached eggs on Black pudding, one Lincolnshire Chipolata sausage and toast. Lotsa coffee. Heading out for a days work on the irrigation system which includes wading. Waiting for the day to warm. Not a long wait it seems. John, this is a tinned meat thread not a what are you eating thread. Oh, the nerve! Never would I commit such a transgression.

I think it was called deviled ham, not spam. “Deviled ham, a taste of Hell” Would be an appropriate ad. Nope...Underwood makes Deviled ham to this day; Armor the maker of Spam, Made Deviled Spam for many years, but now that same flavor can be found under the potted meat label a much better tasting product, but not something I'd go out of my way for... Now I have to try Libby's to see if it has changed as well...all in the quest for knowledge

Libby's Potted Meat Food Product has to be the king of ew. Mechanically Separated Chicken, Pork Skin, Partially Defatted Cooked Fatty Tissue, Partially Defatted Cooked Beef Fatty Tissue, Vinegar, Less than 2% of: Salt, Spices, Sugar, Flavorings, Sodium Erythorbate and Sodium Nitrite. My mom ate that. She was in her 20s during the depression. People who grew up then developed strange tastes. She also ate pickled pigs feet and sardines. My folks were of the same era, and I remember those jars of Hormel's pickled pig's feet too; they tasted like canned ham, but I never could get passed the creepy jelly they were packed in. Pop also tried to feed me head-cheese, blood sausage, and even blood pudding, all from a local deli...it never took. In all fairness, the same man came home with my first taste of cheesecake, and opened my eyes to things like egg salad, and banana milkshakes, so it all equals out.

I guess they saw the error of their ways!

I really like tinned beef. When I lived in the Middle East it was usually the cheapest meat around. I think the weirdest tinned product I've tried is a whole chicken in aspic. It tasted okay once you boiled it.
