Man oh man, cannot wait to get this more formed but gonna be a tree impressioned maple burl pipe stand. Gonna stain the grain with a brandy dye and then the rest a mild reddish honey. Gonna look great when done, but most of the carving is by hand with wood chisels... so hard going...  |

The pipe & tobacco shop near my job used to stock pipe stands like this. I still regret that I didn't pick one up before they disappeared. (The current owner thinks the guy who made them--they were individually hand-made, like yours, and must have been a lot of work--just stopped, and the store under its previous management sold out what they had and that was that.)
This is shaping up to be a beautiful piece, and I know you'll enjoy it twice as much for having made it.
