I thought it would be cool to talk about the history of different pipe brands, pipe shapes, etc. I have recently gone kind of nuts with this, and I thought others might too. If we get all our enthusiasm into one thread, this could be the goto place to get your history fix.

I believe at one time I saw a bunch of cool stuff posted by Turbocat, about Missouri Meerschaum. Not finding it.

We used to have a member here whose name escapes me now…. He was always posting some neat finds, a lot of articles from bygone years related to all kinds of pipe companies.
He was one of the many that contribute a lot, only to suddenly cease contributing, never to be heard from again.

It is kind of cool to be smoking a pipe with either some history to it or some provenance. Or this or that pipe features prominently in that or this movie. It makes one part of something much bigger. The Chacom pipes I have purchased have had some other characteristic that I bought them for, great handsome looks for one thing, great hand feel for another. The smokes have all been first rate of course. But after reading about the history of Chacom, Comoy, and the Saint Claude pipe making, I am smoking exclusively Chacom. For now of course. I see there are a few books on Peterson pipes. That might get me back into my Petersons. I really am such a mess.

I have some estate pipes, and I wonder what generations have smoked this before me, and what those pipes had seen as they hung from another person's mouth. If only they could talk, there might be a good few stories to hear.

So here is another cool article, this time Dr. Grabow. Apparently the whole idea, at least originally, was to use the good doctor's name so as to get a brand identified with being perhaps a healthier smoke than other brands. I smoked many a Dr. Grabow, but only because it was always there on the wall at the drug/convenience store. Fascinating: pipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Grabow
