So I've recently started watching the Netflix western Godless. I turned it on today, maybe it was always there but I just noticed. Being as the show is Nertflix and can get away with stuff, it has the usual warnings about nudity and language. Right after that, the third warning: Smoking. Yes they warned us that this show has people smoking in it....
The more times go the way they are the more I am glad I am in the latter half of my life and not just starting out.

I saw the trailer for the new Poirot movie coming out, never saw a pipe.
Hollywood has no qualms about blood and gore, but smoking? Egads! Shield thine eyes!
And they are subtle at pressing the messages that they want. My granddaughter said something about wanting to watch the new Barbie movie. Her mother did a little research and in an interview the actress that played Barbie freely admitted that the director used the movie as a “Trojan Horse” to get her message across.
I have yet to see an instance where a “Trojan Horse” is a method I would agree with in educating young minds.
Hollywood is pretty full of them types.

I suppose those labels help parents understand what is depicted in the movie or show. Some parents don't want their children hearing bad language, or watching sex or violence or threat, etc....but others might not want their children watching scenes with alcohol or smoking or drug use, and so it's nice for them to know that beforehand. It IS a big thing for many people, so I can see why they have it listed.

Nudity, Language, graphic violence I get.
My point is that if they are going to add smoking warnings, it would be nice if they had influence or agenda warnings.
TV shows are the worst, they can start out great but as the episodes go on, they consistently insert their agenda, figuring they already roped you in. I have no problem dropping the show, but I imagine a lot of people soldier on… and it can influence your conscience, not for the better… moreso, young minds.

WARNING: Language
I like it when they say a really old black and white movie has smoking in it. I just think to myself, "well no shite."

I appreciate the compliment. I'm not sure I'm that open minded, but I have been quick to jump to conclusions in the past, without considering other sides (I still do at times, but I'm trying to learn not to). As a result, I try to think of things from all angles, which is exhausting, but helps to keep me from annoying or offending people accidentally. In my line of work, that helps. I get your point that, as an adult show, it is perhaps a redundant statement.
