Tomorrow makes forty-six years as man and wife for the two old folks in this house  . I ordered 12 red rose's for today, but tomorrow's plan is still unclear. We're adding a porch across the entire front of our house, and we agreed it would be our gift to each other,  but you know how that goes. |

I broached the subject to my wife about no longer buying presents for each other, rather invest money in projects like you said that we both benefit from.
She seemed less than enthusiastic about that approach… some small parts of her have Californian tendencies in her DNA.

I hear ya...and had some worries along those lines, but the rose's just got here and I can say for sure that they'll blow her mind when she gets home. The florist did such a great job I completely forgot to tip the gal who delivered them! |

Thanks for the kind words gents. With any contract that stands 46 years there's bound to be a hiccup or two, but if I had only one word to sum up our time together, blessing would work just fine.

Thanks folks...just when you think it can't get any better...I just woke up and found that it's 76 degrees outside, and 81 degrees inside. Out heat-pump has decided to drop dead on a Sunday, and our Anniversary...I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to sunrise.

Here's a heartwarming happy ending story...Yesterday I called a local firm to see if someone would come out on Sunday, and perhaps fix our heat-pump. $385.00 just to come out, plus $90.00 every half hour, starting when they leave the shop. I gave up on Sunday and made an appointment for today...$85 to come out, plus $90 bucks every half hour.
Those numbers rolled around in my head till noon, and when I just couldn't stand to think of it anymore I called the son of the original installer.
I told him who I was and that mine was the last heat-pump his Dad installed before he retired. He remembered, " yep, Daddy liked that job cause my brother, Mike, was the helper for those two days, and you folks were so nice"
The father passed less than a year after he retired, and left the business to his oldest son Jeff. I could almost hear Jeff's smile through the phone, as he told me he'd be out within the hour and didn't charge any more for Sunday than any other day.
Jeff showed up within the hour, put a new part on, flushed and cleaned up, and gave me a receipt with the words " Happy Anniversary" at the bottom...he had asked me what the rose's were about as he walk through the house.
I tried to pay, then I tried to pay just the service call, then just a big tip...each time he just shook his head and took another step back.
There's still some good people out there!
