Love it. Here's my bike porn: a custom Bonneville that sold for 'only' $20,000. Yes, it's called the Steve McQueen Special. Mmmm...

Can't ride anymore, Balance problem, Son says sell it, I say it's paid for and I sometimes go in the barn and look at it like a fine painting.

These are the boys, Benny and cHarley. 2002 and 2004. They spend the winters in Arizona and come back to Chicago in the spring. 1 in May and 1 in June, then back again in September and October. My 4 big road trips each year. And Yes, I ride the Sportster to and from Arizona.😁

Sportsters are very much capable of long distance riding. I have ridden mine all over Europe and last year a friend rode with us about 2.100 kilometers through Germany, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic. This years it´s the Czech Republic for us again.

Don't we have this backwards Frank? Shouldn't you be riding the BMW and I the Harley!😝 I have fun with the Harley. It's easy to ride and I can't take the whole house with me! Don't get me wrong I love the BMW. So many people think that sportsperson are city bikes. I would love to ride in Europe.

I love Harleys since I first was introduced to them by a friend at the tender age of 14. The most important thing is the characteristics of the engine for me. May they all look nice with shining chrome and what have you, that motor with its grunt right out of the revolution cellar makes my day. And yes - only Ducatis make a nicer sound, well... sort of..... BMW´s? I had to ride one when I made my license. It was one of those ungainly R45´s and I had the feeling that with this drive shaft it was going more up and down than forward! Old Beemers seem to be all the rage now but I am still not sure if I could like them. Maybe I have to get even older than I am right now.... But Harley and especially the Sportsters still get my blood flowing and give me goosebumps. Me on my first Harley 30 years ago:

You guys have some sweet and unnaturally clean bikes all right, but Frank still wins with the Shovelhead in his damn living room. He needs to add that holster saddle, though

Now that I can see the pics I'd like to say ... sweet rides!! After 30 years of riding metric cruisers, it was time to give my back a break. I opted for a 1.8L Flat 6 boxer engine installed in a fully suspended couch. Here she is in front of my pump-house ... that Pomegranate tree behind it is full of flowers right now:

That's a shame sir, ain't nothing like a good comfortable pair of X or J toed boots. Thankfully I still got all of mine, some are as old as my daughter who is now 36. But, let her know I said that.

Thats true! Many people thought they were uncomfortable back then but I could climb in them like a mountain goat. These days I wear engineer boots on the Harley.

A lot of my cronies wore the engineer boots but, I found them to be way too heavy for me to even walk in, always looked like I was impersonating Frankenstein's monster. Western boots where much more comfortable and lighter for me. Of course, in my prime I was only 5' 7" and weighed 160 pounds.

Some beautiful horses to be sure..... I did some motocross back in the seventies, and about tore my leg off, I flew over a hill, instinctively put my right leg down and it acted as a shock absorber, when I was in traction at Fort Carson, the GI's asked if I had elephantitis since my knee was blown out so bad.... it was HUGE! ....never drove on the street. Something about the BMW touring bikes have always appealed to me though.

I remember dumping one at 45 MPH and putting my hand down to cushion my fall on moving asphalt. After grinding half the heel off my hand and knee ya learn fast.

While my first car was a Suzuki GS300L roadster (the largest I could talk my mom into getting), I had an orange Garelli 50cc moped in 8th grade. I thought I kept up with regular maintenance, but missed one detail.
I hit a large bump and the front end came up off the ground. Without the front wheel. It stayed on the ground, just the front forks came up.
I had time to think, 'Well, I'll just... hmm. Nope, I'm going down. I'm going down hard, and I'm going down right now.' Didn't hurt me, just the bike, but I didn't realize checking to see if the frigging front wheel was attached was part of regular maintenance. Loved that thing though; having a motorized bicycle in 8th grade was pretty cool.
