My last uncle passed away yesterday. My mother’s younger brother. My dad just got sent home from the cardiologist today with a defibrillator and a prescription for Eliquis. Mom’s older sister (88) was hospitalized a week ago with COVID and we think is on the mend. Dad won’t accept nursing help or assistance from his kids and Mom is the only one he will let help him with his health and daily needs right now. My uncle’s funeral is next Tues and it looks like only a couple of my brothers can travel for it. I am going to provide support for the folks on this end and we can attend virtually, thank the Lord. I am not traveling until my heart issues are sorted out. I continue to have twinges and the weird heartbeat at times. Mom found out about my condition, so there is yet another thing to stress her out. Good grief, how much stress can the woman handle? Topping it it off today at work, we all found out a co-worker and friend has stage 4 spinal cancer. Prayers for my folks, uncles family and my friend would be much appreciated. I believe in it. My goodness, that's a great deal of stuff. Prayers sent your way. Also, make sure to take care of yourself, my friend.

As I read your post, I thought “genetics” before you mentioned it.
That is the way it goes, if a pacemaker keeps all 8 cylinders firing, that is a good thing and I imagine that it is a pretty routine procedure with few risks.
My cousin (30 years my age) had one put in in the seventies, and she had a long fruitful life! Better to catch it now and avoid the alternative…. Always a good think to bump the tires regularly for the trip.
Regardless, prayers for you going forward, Don.

Yep, people with a pacemaker generally have about the same lifespan as everyone else.

As heart problems go, ones that can be addressed with a pacemaker are probably the ones you want. That's a pretty dang reliable technology at this point. Glad it's not more complicated, Don.

At least it was caught in time, Don. Now they can do something about it and get you back on track. You've had a rough hand dealt to you lately. Hang in there, bud.

A defibrillator pacemaker Don? Good luck my father has had one for many years. He just had his 86th birthday. Good luck it will work out well.

I'm glad to hear that something can be done thanks to modern medicine, Don. We're with you and your family all the way and I wish you the best as this moves forward.
