After 10+ years of having hearing aids, have found that all they do is make sounds louder. They do nothing about my brain damage from birth. People do not speak words well on so-called "normal" conversations. Example...Jeopardy.I can catch all the said words by the hosts, mis-hear many said by contestants, they do not for most part use perfect diction & elocution, forming of words etc. Most of their answers are mumbling. Phone conversations with me...iffy if your intonation is not perfect & speaking too fast for my brain to absorb words. I don't have the devices in my ears during the day, if do so, traffic sounds too loud, don't need that.
I hope this is not too off-topic for others

The latest HAs do a lot more than making things louder. On mine I can adjust the frequencies I hear, isolate a particular speaker in a noisy environment, cut out wind sounds, receive telephone calls, etc. They are basically small computers, controlled and monitored by the iPhone. Hearing aids have come a long way.

A pet peeve of mine also. Some of the tobacco reviewers think that you have never seen a tin opened before, and you are supposed to be amazed and in wonderment as they open the Ark Of The Covenant. I think they're mostly just trying to be welcoming and helpful to any beginners who watch. I hope that is the motive but it comes off as self-aggrandizing to me. |

I am always one of the youngest guys to attend the NASPC pipe show in Columbus, OH. All these Youtube pipe guys are showing up now and I’ve now met several, but the only guy I knew on sight was Muttonchop Piper! Most of the guys now use Instagram, Facebook groups, and Youtube. I’m more of an old soul and I don’t use typical social media, as it’s more junk and noise but that’s the way folks are going lately. Many still have a Pipesmagazine account as well. It can be harder to engage in long form, forum communications when folks are short for time and attention. Love Muttonchop Piper! He should stand out in any crowd. 😁 |
