Good Morning gents.
Does anyone ever get anxiety or panic attacks from smoking their pipes?
Sometimes I do get anxious when puffing and I happen to be tired from the day's events.

I actually have the exact opposite effect it is calming, but I have never really had anxiety or panic issues.

Same. Relaxing, even meditative.

Ditto as to the thoughts from the last two distinguished gentlemen.

Can't say I have, Geoff. From your description, maybe it's more to do with having time for the first time all day to sit and think about the busy day's events? The stress catches up with you?

I think you bring up a good point, Urb. Making time for my pipe should be given more importance. I think rushing a smoke is not going to be fun for anyone.

I think you bring up a good point, Urb. Making time for my pipe should be given more importance. I think rushing a smoke is not going to be fun for anyone. I think I would say it more like "rushing life is not going to be fun for anyone." If you're already rushing around all day, don't try to crowd one more thing in, thinking it'll make you feel better. Take some things out. (Not always possible, I know.) To quote a not terribly popular James Taylor song, "The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time." OTOH, I'm mostly just a lazy person, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

My most reliable source of anxiety is not being prepared. Next to that nicotine "ain't nuthin'".
The only nic hit I recall is smoking War Horse way too fast.

I haven't had exactly that reaction, but in the past when I've taken too much of a nicotine hit (like smoking Bow-Legged Bear on a hot, humid day--never again), along with the copious sweat, nausea, and general longing to die I've noticed a racing heart. If I hadn't been preoccupied with the aforesaid sweat, nausea, et cetera, that could well feel like anxiety or panic.

I would venture a guess you are predisposed?, if that is correct, to anxiety. I would also go further and say that if you pay attention you will notice your heart racing more often during the day than you realize and which you never noticed before. This can be a bit frightening at first but you really should slow down and pay attention to it before it bites you. The reason you are associating it with the pipe is it is the first time you slow down enough, during your day, to notice.

Only time j had a reaction to nicotine was nasua and the room feeling like it was spinning from not eating before smoking high octane blends.
