Which pipe material do you prefer and why?
I'm a Briar guy all the way...frankly I'm just accustom to the burn, the appearance and longevity.

I tend to reach for my claw Meer most of the time. I just like the way it looks and smokes no other reason it smokes just as good as a briar and since it's well broken in I'm sure I couldn't tell the difference between it and a briar in a blind tasting.

I like them all.
I smoke mostly briars because that is what I have the most of, I like my Meerschaums, and cobs… I really like burley in a cob, briars and meers get smoked with Virginia based blend which is what I mostly smoke. Big wide briars for the occasional English blend.

I second cobs and Burley. I like briar pipes, even the ones I made (not all of them). I have a few meerschaum pipes, just can't fall in love with them for some reason. Not much interest in clays.

50/50 between briars and cobs. I have about a dozen of each. I like how both smoke. I used to have about 50 briars. I do have one very nice meer that I smoke on special occasions.

All of the above.
Clay only on occasion.
Cobs are the workhorse, in the garage, working in the yard. On a boat, if you lose it over the side!.
Meers, when I have time to just sit. No phone etc

Briar almost exclusively. I do have a couple of meers, including a skull meer my daughter gave me which I often smoke around Halloween. I could never get into cobs somehow, though I know a lot of people enjoy them, and I've never tried clay.
I'm counting my Falcons as briars, since that's what the bowls are.
Concrete pipes are too heavy to clench, magnesium gets too hot, and cardboard ... well, that was just a flash in the pan.

I smoke briars, meers, cobs, and the occasional clay. I have no real preference for one material in particular, although I do go through periods where I will lean towards one or the other.

I haven't ventured into meers or clays yet. I smoke my briars and cobs interchangeably with no real rhyme or reason. Whichever strikes my fancy at the time.

Briar is definitely where it’s at for me, my favorite non-briar material is olive wood. Tried meer and morta and neither grabbed me. Cobs are ok, but I’m more likely to reach for an inexpensive Cayuga, Kaywoodie, or Dr. Grabow briar with an a cob when in environments not conducive to a nice briar.

I go for whatever is closest when I am reaching for a pipe. Only ones I avoid are morta and clay. Smoked a couple of morta and they just did not feel right. And the clay just don't clench right. 😀

I have a Morta made by Ron Powell, it smokes fantastic… I think the guy carving it had more to do with the smokeability than anything.

Well, I have lots and lots of nice briar pipes, but on a friday night in front of the comp screen, with some bourbon or blended scotch, it will be a cob hands down. YMMV
