This is a Dr. Grabow, it said something about "automatic" or "autosystem" or something on the side and had a patent no. We couldn't get the writing to show up, the lighting conditions were bad. They want $16 for it, but said they would negotiate.

Well, it's been awhile since I've looked at estates enough to know what the prices are these days but, $16 in it's current condition might be okay but, if they're willing to negotiate I'd offer'em $10 for it and see what they counter with or if they accept it. I personally wouldn't pay anymore then $12 for it but, I'm pretty much a tightwad.

after research I've figured out that on the side of the pipe it says "Adjustomatic PAT. 2461905" This has a screw in tenon with stinger and if you tighten the stem too tight too many times it would finally one day turn pass where it should to be aligned with the shank so they came out with a stem that could be adjusted after it was tightened so everything would line up properly and you wouldn't have to smoke a pipe cockeyed.

Nice loking pipe, but it has fills (sandpits filled with putty). IMHO more then $16.00 worth of work getting that rim back to normal.

I normally pass when the rim appears actually charred as is the case with this one. Others more skilled at rehab may have another opinion.
