I use one occasionally. If you do it right and don’t rush the process, it makes a beautiful cup of coffee. If prepare the grounds a little too tight in the basket or heat the water to quick, it yields the nastiest sour and bitter cup you’ll ever taste. Honestly, I’d use it more often if I weren’t so lazy. It took me a while to get the technique down, but with practice it's become second nature, even for me who am second to none in laziness.
I'm starting to think the quality of the moka pot makes a difference, too; it's worth the small extra expense to get one of the established brands such as (pre-eminently) Bialetti. I still have problems occasionally if I use an off-brand pot.Huh, that’s interesting. They all seem identical and there are no moving parts. I’ve made some really good cups with this moka pot. I just don’t use it often enough to dial it in. Starting tomorrow, I think I’ll force myself to use it at least once a day and see if I can get it to brew more consistent. Hopefully for Christmas, someone gets me an espresso press. Fingers crossed! Lol

In the mornings I'll have a medium roast coffee. Nothing special there, just a single serve percolator with a reusable metal filter. For tea I use a simple electric tea kettle with a loose leaf tea infuser. Cream for bolder black teas and straight for green teas. I tend to drink trees more in the afternoon/evening particularly when I'm reading. If I have a hot drink while smoking, I prefer tea to coffee.

I made a cup in the moka pot today. I normally preheat my water to a boil before filling the moka pot , but today I tried a tip and used room temperature water and let the stove and the pot do all the work. It came out ok, but it immediately began to sputter when the coffee came out of the spout. I think maybe my grind is too fine and the water is having trouble getting through the coffee. I will try a coarser grind tomorrow.

I think I nailed this one pretty good. I bumped the grind size up a tad, started with room temp water, heated it really slow. I also stuck an aeropress paper filter between the bottom and top chambers. This cup is silky smooth and delicious.

It tastes real good, Russ! On my second one of the day. I think I’ve got it dialed in quite well now.

That is a good point about the grind; it isn't a true espresso (it doesn't force steam through the grounds at high pressure), and too fine a grind will keep the water from getting through, as I figured out the hard way. (For the same reason, I've read the advice not to tamp the grounds down in the basket--again, unlike in an espresso machine.)
