Kinda surprised that no pipe smokers seem to be pleased that the onerous restrictions on pipe smokers have been rescinded.
New Zealand is a country that I would like to visit, the recent anti-tobacco laws removed them from my list, the change says maybe I can go there.
I do not want to put money in the coffers of bureaucrats that despise me.
It is, what it is...

I don't expect to ever visit NZ but their tobacco laws wouldn't affect my decision either way, so, meh. The Kiwis can decide for themselves. No skin off my nose.

I get it, but a win for a pipe smoker anywhere, I am happy for. Supposedly we can decide for ourselves also, but that does not mean that we will not be ruled by the number of people here also...most of them are not smokers. Our system was not geared by mob rule...individual liberties were to be respected, but that all has been eroded if we are not vigilant, it will be skin off of our noses.

I read about this when first proposed and I'm glad that it's not going through. The anti-smoking crusaders would certainly point to such legislation, if passed, as a victory and the way forward.

Not winning in the democratic process doesn't equal having one's rights trampled. Some things are unpopular. Not everything is a right. Pipe smoking is a hobby for me. I don't get wound up about it as some kind of cause. If it becomes unsupportable, I'll be bummed for a while, but I'll find another hobby. It's not a big deal to me.

And that's about as far as I'm willing to go on this conversation.

Homo sapien’s thirst for tyranny is endless. The lust for control often comes disguised (thinly!) as “We want to protect you!”

They never learn, do they? Who do you think is going to be the Kiwi's tobacco Al Capone? Pipe smokin' speakeasies, greenhouse tobaccum rusticum in the basement...sound familiar?

Right you are, JimK Prohibition just creates the black market. Regardless of wherever such behavior control legislation tries to get passed, it acts as an example and inspiration for anti-smoking crusaders elsewhere. We may not like it, but we can't yield one inch to the anti-smoking lobby. They aren't going to draw lines of difference between one form of smoking being less harmful than another and their goal is to eradicate smoking altogether. I believe that it's in the best interest of pipe smokers to protect our rights by protecting the rights of all smokers.

NZ is a beautiful but insignificant country. We used to want to visit but that's no longer possible or desired. The USA stands alone in our constitution and beliefs. If we don't stand as an example the rest of the world will descend into a series of warring dictatorships.
