Just lit up a bowl of Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake in the Amorelli while watching another streaming video and sipping the rest of my coffee. I'll head back to the house when I finish this pipe. Dark Flake comes rather moist when fresh and bites a bit until it dries out some. The depth and richness really shines now.

Happy Saturday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Saturday cob and coffee. Getting together with my wife's family for Christmas gathering today . I'll assemble/bake the appetizers we're taking along in a little while.

Before the stuffed mushrooms go into the oven, I'm having some Friar's Bayou in a self-made Zulu.

This Arango Balkan Supreme is checking all the boxes for me. I only bought an ounce to give it a try. May have to go back and buy a pound. If you like Balkan Sobranie, this is a great alternative. It’s right up there with Sobranie, IMO. I’m on my third bowl today in the Orlik De Luxe. The smoked pork butt was a bust. Ran out of fuel for the pellet smoker right at the end. I needed to get the meat about 10 degrees hotter to make iit really tender and delicious. We ate it, but I didn’t go in for seconds. Matt, fear not the same thing happened to a butt I smoked. I found out later that you can put it in the oven at about 250º and it will finish the fat rendering. Having a couple of Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Twisted Flakes in a GBD Digby Canadian... This is one that I restored from an eBay sale several years ago. It had a terrible crack in the bowl which you could look through after I removed the cake. But, with some advice I received from Steve Laug, AKA Reborn Pipes, I was able to render it back into service. And as an added bonus, it smokes quite well! A bottle of water on the side...

2007 Two Friends Redwood in my 1982 Dunhill Root Briar 41241 Panel. Just wow! Thanks! I felt like I won the lottery when I found this unsmoked undergraded pipe. It came into Paul's Pipe Shop as part of an estate collection a couple months before the pandemic. That side in the pic is the worst side with that slight bend in the grain. The other three sides are all straight up and down and the top and bottom are nothing but birdseye. I’ve seen DR *, DR **, and DR *** graded pipes with worse grain. I once showed this pipe to Brian Levine and asked his opinion on why it is so undergraded. His response: probably purchase orders. ie Dealers hadn’t ordered enough DR *+ grade pipes when this was made. 🤷♂️ So, I have a great Dunhill to commemorate my high school graduation year. 😀

Trying GL Pease Ashbury for the first time. The reviews on it seem to be a little all over the place. I quite like it. It’s a smidge lighter on the Latakia compared to others I’ve been smoking lately. It’s pretty good!

Yeah I bought a tin of Dracquer and Sons King’s Fool and a tin of Gaslight simultaneously. I’m a big fan of both. Quiet Nights is next on the list.

Had a couple bowls of Friar's Bayou in a self-made freehand Dublin for the drive to and from a family Christmas party. I'll have a bowl of Haunted Bookshop in the Saturday cob and call it a day.

Good Sunday Morning! It's 48° and raining here right now. The workshop heater is on low just to chase the chill and damp. Nothing much on the list for this afternoon so I'll work on my vintage railroad postcard blog and, of course, do some more laundry. Starting the smoking day with a bowl of 2015 McC Christmas Cheer, a gift from a friend, in the Savinelli Venera 128 rusticated billiard. Talk about one fine tobacco: deep, rich, and smooth. As always, there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a good one everybody!

A generous member here sent me a selection of tobaccos including the wonderful Blackwoods Flake. My friend from the Cleveland area gets together with me several times a year and we meet at a tobacco shop halfway between our homes to sit in the smoking lounge to talk and smoke our pipes. He knows how much I like McC tobacco, so he passed this tin on to me. A good friend indeed.
