It's been a long time, gents. My apologies for being MIA. Saying life has been crazy the last year would be an understatement, and I don't have the time to be active here. Unfortunately, prevents me from having a finger on the pulse of what is going on, which I think has caused some problems.
I'm honestly not sure what the best path forward is. Unless we can find some people to help moderate, I'm not sure what the future holds. I'm open to suggestions for sure.

Nice surprise you great fearless leader! Hope all well with you & family. Only couple things from me, minor. Have a mod stay current on when a month is over & a new one begins, Paddy from Ireland was quick on padlocking same old ones, maybe not done finally, "Mr Technology" here flubbed up twice. Also can somebody prevent the porno queens from even entering the chat room. Very few there anymore, surprised that not more from time zone West of Eastern.
Ed-close to 83, dealing with but very slow

There are several active members that could be moderators. Perhaps just ask for some volunteers? Glad to see you and hope life calms down for you soon.

Hello, Justin...Yes, it's been a while. I would think that moderators would need to meet certain qualifications such as availability to monitor the site, length of time of membership, technical ability to work with the site controls and tools, etc. These are just some things to take into consideration for prospective moderators.

For the most part, the forum is self moderating and that speaks well of this herd of cats. I appreciate all those that have served as moderators, but understand that family priorities sometimes limit that ability.
But… since the position pays 75k per year in cash, I wonder why there aren’t more people willing to serve.

It's good that this place ticks over nicely, but at the same time, I things have been mental for me too what with Naomi being in hospital now three times since September. That said, I really do miss this place.

I call on juvenile patients and it is tought to see them dealing with trials that they should not have to. Compound that to the 10th power when it is your child, I reckon. |

My Great Dane puppy had some horrible seizures before we finally got him the proper meds but I can't even imagine what you're going through. If I may ask, what have they tried so far? Phenobarbital? CBD's? |

Cheers all, and I'm sorry for hijacking this thread. As for what they've tried, Darin, they've tried Keppra, Lorazepan, Pehenobarbital - all didn't work because the EEG showed up non-epileptic seizures. Neuro consultant thinks they are a progression of her condition and it's gone to the next level. |

In non-epilectic types, it seems that often there is a psychological piece that may be addressed. Have they tried any Cognitive Behavioral Therapy? There have also been many positive reports with the use of certain CBD oils. I'm just so sorry you and your family have to experience this. All the best, my friend. 🙏

Going back to the OP ... there's two or three posts right now that would get the "hammer" anywhere else. I guess, as a collective, we need to decide if that's just the way it's going to be here. Lots of political and social commentary that really doesn't belong on a pipe forum. It has chased away some good folks and prevents others from sticking around once they see how it goes. My 2 cents, which I'm guessing is what it's worth. |

It's not that no one gets offended but, rather, the offended members just don't stick around. As I said, if that's what this site wants to be then that's fine. I would like to see more, and varied, participants.

The point is that no one should have to feel offended. This is not the place for veiled racism, derogatory comments regarding other nationalities, or a platform for airing political grievances. This isn't a free speech issue, but a mutual respect issue. The whole line about this being a "self-moderating" forum is a myth because of some member's ability to get away with making outrageous comments.

The downside is that I don't have the time to be engaged like I used to... I lost a moderator who managed this place very well.
I can't wrap my head around why a bunch of grown men require so much babysitting. That's not what I hoped for when I created this place.
I'll say this... it's up to all of you what happens next. We can all be adults and start carrying ourselves as such, or you can find another place to take the negativity. This world is f**ked up enough, I'm not going to enable it.

Urb, I realize self police is a pipe-dream. (See what I did there). No, I will most certainly need another mod or two, but I want it to be clear to everyone that I expect a certain level of decorum... which seems to get lost in "I have been around here a long time, I know the owner" mentality. The cantankerous pipe crowd has always been a challenge, but we don't need to sink to a level of humanity that puts us in line with other forums.
Guys, I don't care where you come from, what your background is, I just want people to be respectful of each other all the time, but especially this time of year.
I didn't miss your offer Urb. I think we need to chat.
