I haven't bought much tobacco this past year, because I think I have enough. That said, i went online a couple of days ago and noticed that the price of Tobacco in the UK is now over £20 for a 50g tin (around $26).
When I first started in 2015 it was about £14 per tin. I think now it'll be duty free stops for me if I ever buy any. I think what I've got will keep me going for a while - I'll just have to take the rough with the smooth in this one as I've a lot of different tobaccos in my stash.

That's a shame, LL. I mean, it's great that you have enough of a stash, but it's unfortunate it's gotten prohibitively expensive to even buy a little something here and there to try out.

Yea, it really sucks. When I say I have a stash - I don't have anywhere near what some have, but it's probably enough for me, given that I only smoke on good days and they are few and far between in this part of the world. That said, when I get a nice one, It'll be tough to finish the packet knowing that it'll probably be the end of it (unless I feel like pushing the boat out and getting another tin)...but that could happen in a few years time, by which point the prices may be through the roof (as if they aren't already).

In addition to rising prices, there's also the problem of availability here in the States.

You can get them if you are twice/ three times a day getting on the internet and checking out online sources that have “drops” of the hard to get stuff. But I digress, them drops are not as frequent as it has been in the past.

The British manufacturers don’t produce enough to meet demand. Most of it gets bought up by China from Germain and Gawiths.
Stock up while you can cellar. 50g tins in New Zealand cost them close to $100
US tin prices went from $9 a tin a decade ago to an average right now close to $13. Then you have 50g tins of Escudo and Capstan Blue on the higher end already ranging from $17-21 in the US, and these are regular production. Not limited editions, not holiday editions. Exclusive to SmokingPipes only, Seattle Pipe Club just released 4oz. tins of Christmas Spirit at a whopping $42.99, but in general SPC are now selling Sutliff tobacco unashamedly for $10/ounce.
My concerns lie primarily with closing out my cellar the next year or two with my favorite British tobaccos before they are either prohibitively expensive or tobacco gets banned in the UK, and C&D/Pease blends before they go a few bucks higher per tin.
Legend Lover with as little as you smoke, it may pay off to just buy a stack of your favorite tins now before they go higher. Years ago when I ordered some tins from the UK directly (back when we sort of legally could do so) I still recall thinking how expensive they were around $20 per tin. Now they’re about that price in the US.

I think what I'll do is just get my allowance worth at duty free if I'm away somewhere during the summer. In Lazarote last year there was limited supply compared to 2017, but I got a few pouches of Holger Danske and Amphora for around 5-7 euro a pouch.

It is amazing how reasonable the prices can be when undeserving people are not in the way!
