My old neighbor who introduced me to pipes years ago once told me, “everybody needs a birth year Dunhill in their collection”. I’ve been on a half-assed hunt for the right one (and one that I can afford) for years. I recently started looking a bit more seriously. I had recently acquired a bunch of new pipes from one of the more popular estate pipe shops, and while we chatted, I explained this to him. He said he could find something for me in short time, and he did just that. I’m a terrible photographer and my camera work does not help display this piece of briar well at all. It’s beautiful! Trying to decide what the inaugural tobacco will be tonight. Merry Christmas to me!

I remember 1984 well, the year I graduated high school and shipped off to the military. Looks like a fine Christmas present.

Not wanting to take over this spot, just want to show my 1943 Root Briar Dunhill, my birth year, not as pretty as the pipe above but very rare!

That’s wonderful, Matt. So glad you found one. For me, I’d rather have a bIrth-year Wolsely. If it’s good enough for Foyle I’m sure it would be good enough for me. www.carandclassic.com/car/C1667591

Pretty cool, it would be hard to find another "Holy Grail" pipe above a birth year Dunhill, and I bet as you age, it's beauty will surpass your handsomeness...I know what I speak of.

Ah, the elusive birth year pipe. Been in the hunt for a ‘55 anything “affordable” range.
I second Matt’s choice though! Smart looking car.
Thank you all for your service. Have a Merry Christmas 🎄

I was gifted a 1950 Dunhill lovat that's my "conception year" pipe. I was born in '51, so it's close enough.

mattI think its an excellent image matt. It captures the bird's eye of the entire stummel very well. A handsome pipe.

Here's my 1950 birth year Dunhill Root Briar Lovet. Not as pretty as yours, but it smokes great and it was given to me by a friend on the old forum.

Ed attempted to find a birth year Dunhill, but Alfred Dunhill was still attending boarding school back then.
