At Smokingpipes, I do not know if it will be elsewhere. I am wondering if this is part of a bigger SG drop? imgur.com/a/WwSXB7V

This sounds more like someone giving a name to a market inefficiency they'd like to exploit than an actual product.

You're right, Urb. SG should be concentrating on getting more FVF to market instead of selling us the scraps.

Possible tip: Keep an eye on Watch City Cigar for an SG drop soon, there was a post on pipe smokers den where the link was titled as such, but the way that forum is setup you cannot open links unless you are a member there. A lot of times these sites post the product as out of stock, so it is ready to for when they flip the switch. watchcitycigar.com/samuel-gawith-full-virginia-flake-50g-tin/

Lot's of folks have been posting the unavailability of Gawith blends, git'em while you can, there are other groups of folks other than the good ole USA desiring these types of Pipe Tobacco, We are not alone, and not in a good way, YMMV.

As of about an hour ago there was still stock of 500g boxes of FVF, Balkan Flake, and Best Brown Flake on Smokingpipes! I had them in my cart but I backed away.

Based-on past experiences…
I think that a container of tobacco comes in, and it is all shipped to the retailers to be released on a particular date.
Check with other retailers if the “ big guys” sell out before you make it to the counter with a particular blend that sells out with the big guys.

I did buy: 8 oz of 1792, and 8 oz of balkan flake, a tin of Ennerdale to trigger free shipping. A couple weak spots in the cellar of them particular blends. (Funny how two 8oz. Purchases are just a tad under free shipping, hence the tin of Ennerdale) I demand an investigation!

I probably should have bought them, but I haven’t enjoyed any of my VAs lately after getting back into pipes. Plus the last two 500g boxes I bought a few years ago were all moldy. I can’t lie though, I am definitely feeling a little bit of fomo right now.

The blends have always been a little hard to get so act fast when you do see it come around.

I got busy this morning up on the res, missed out on the burnt ends, but it is marketed as being equivalent to well aged FVF, which I have plenty of.

Meant to add, that it would have been nice to do a side by side comparison. I will have to check with the Arizona Pipe Club members and see if we can make that determination.

It was Best Brown. I sent it back and they replaced it with a box of FVF which also was moldy.

That’s unfortunate. Unfortunate, yes…but nobody’s fault. I can’t remember who I bought this from, but they were easy to deal with and they gave me a full refund and even covered the shipping for me to mail the two boxes back to them. I think it may have been Ken Byron Ventures back when he was just starting up maybe in 2018-19.

I had a conversation with Greg Pease a few years ago, and he said "Frankly, I am surprised that we do not see more of it than we do" There was a run of Temple Bar that was problematic for him. While not tobacco, when I lived in California, I had a friend that was a garlic farmer, and mold was a constant problem for that crop, and you will often see that evidence under the skins. Not sure that tobacco is equally susceptible, but it must be a problem that they have to deal with. Thank you for the picture, there is a lot of discussion in the community about bloom/ Mold/ crystals. This picture is definitive!

Thank you for the picture, there is a lot of discussion in the community about bloom/ Mold/ crystals. This picture is definitive! Yup that for sure was NOT crystals! I watched a vid not long ago where Jeremy Reeve of C&D was talking about blending. He explained that basically mold is there nemesis. Mold spores exist literally everywhere. Mold thrives in damp, dark, cool places. What better place that a dark damp container of tobacco?? He made mention of casing nearly all tobacco at some point during the process with alcohol to help kill the mod spores.

That has to be frustrating from a person like Jeremy. I know that they will try to right any wrongs, but the internet takes on a life of it's own.
