Hello Everyone --
Was a happy pipe smoker from early high school (I was a big Sherlock Holmes fan) until my mid-twenties. (Got married...) Now, many years later, rejoining that happy group of pipe-smoking humans.
I had more than 70 pipes back in the day -- if you're a pipe smoker, you're the easiest person in the world to buy for come Christmas and birthdays -- sadly, gave them all away and have only kept about four or five favorites.
It's been so long; I used to smoke Borkum Riff Cherry and another Cavendish that I cannot for the life of me recall that came in a red package and may have started with the letter S. (Or R! It's been a 'long' time.)
At any rate, here to soak up all the info I can and share a virtual pipe-full with the good people here.

Thank you so much! And -- stupid me -- I just remembered my favorite brand back when I just started pipe smoking: Amphora Red!

I am now in CA, but while living in NY, would go EVERY year to Syracuse for the Great New York State Fair. Many, many happy memories of that!

Welcome, Bob!
A similar journey…. I started smoking a pipe in about 1980, gave it up as to not influence my kids. But, I only had one pipe at the time, and smoked an aromatic.
Fast forward to 2005… I took up the pipe as the kids were gone, realized that there was a whole ‘nuther world than just aromatics… wow!
If you are content with aromatics, smoke what you like, and like what you smoke. But, if there is a pipe club near you, check it out it is a great vehicle in which to stretch your legs.
Greetings from Arizona.

Hi Bob, and welcome from Virginia. I never tried the Amphora Red of old, or the new re-created Amphora Red, but if you find it, you'll also find a Special black, a Burley{ wonderful stuff }, a Virginia and a Dark Kentucky blend. as for Cherry blends, I'm stuck on Lane's TK-6, but there's a lot going on out there; enjoy the hunt!

Welcome from Chicago! I started with the pipe back in 1971 in college; probably tried Amphora at one point, though for many years now I've been smoking Mac Baren Mixture (Scottish Blend), VaPers, and English/Balkan blends mostly.
