Had a nip of Blanton's on the back deck with my son earlier. Now, a bit of Laphroaig to go with the English tobacco I'm about to smoke.

Picked up more Grolsch Pils while in town. I was hoping for an excellent Pilsner made in the USA, Colorado I think. But, no. They had the IPA only. The only other Pilsner available was Urquel, the original Pils and still excellent. At $13 for a six pack of 12 ounce bottles, I think not. Not one German import to be found. It seems will have to visit several stores when shopping as selection is limited in each. They are not as large as the markets these companies have in Santa Fe, Albuquerque or Alamosa.
Also picked up Heineken tall boys in the event someone visits and drinks beer. That happened to me once. I think is was around 2012.

I have never tasted an IPA that I felt like finishing, ditto for any beer with citrus.

Three fingers of Jim Beam Black and a pain pill. Blue Moon is a nice beer with a orange slice just don't waste it on troglodytes instead give them a Bud light just for the reaction its priceless.

I picked up a bottle of Hendrick’s Orbium gin yesterday and tried it in a martini last evening. I’m not a fan of most botanical forward gins, preferring the traditional London dry or Plymouth styles, but this was very good. It’s flavored with quinine, wormwood and lotus blossom, according to the website. The bitterness worked well against the floral top notes of the base. It was a worthwhile martini experiment, but don’t think it would be a good choice in a G&T.

I had a Hendricks variant that was a hard one to get as it sells out quick, but I came to the same conclusion regarding a G&T.

I was advised to stick with red wine since it contains Resveratrol, a Cancer inhibiting compound. So, I have been drinking Carlo Rossi Burgundy or Paisano blend. At $17 for 4 liters, a deal. It is not bad at all and I have a reasonably educated palette for wine. Certainly not a anything other than a simple table wine. The Burgundy clearly contains Pinot Noir grapes and the Paisano has Sangiovese grapes. 500 ML daily.

High West bourbon.
Somebody, and I can't remember if it was here (Silver? Tosh?) or elsewhere, recommended this to me. I would call it . . . a fine bourbon. There's nothing wrong with it. It drinks well. It's a 92-proof, so it's got a little extra body to it, which is nice. You're not going to get layers and layers of flavor from it, but the flavors present are pleasant. It's a lot like regular Woodford Reserve in that respect (though I would prefer WR, if I'm honest, just because I prefer the pleasant flavors it chooses to feature). I think High West would be a good, everyday drinker at around $45-50 a bottle, probably. I caught it on sale for $30.

Had a Coca Cola classic, Mexican bottled with cane syrup instead of corn syrup. No comparison with domestically bottled.
I hope that some day, the domestic bottling facilities will see the light.

Most evenings my poison of choice is usually a nice single malt or an easy sippin bourbon.
This summer, however, has been a hot one. That being said, I am a fan of Gin & Tonic.
So, this evenings pairing is GnT & various VaPer's and cigars.
cheers
