1939 was a great year for movies and Nazis. Except for Captain Langsdorff of the Graff Spee. I do not know if he was a Party member.

He saw the future and didn't like it. The Graff Spee was shot up when it entered Montevideo harbor. Hardwood lost the Exeter to battle damage but gained the Cumberland, another County Class Cruiser with eight inch guns. More importantly, British intelligence planted the story that the Battlecruiser Renown and the Carrier Ark Royal were waiting offshore. He ordered the ship scuttled and shot himself in his hotel room rather than face Adolph. If he had put to sea both Achilles and Ajax were somewhat damaged. I doubt he could have outrun the three Cruisers that actually were waiting for him.

Watching Peckinpah's old masterpiece, "Major Dundee". A rootin' tootin' action movie.

Cowboy's and Aliens so bad it could be the next Clock Work Orange with a cult following. Is that the one with James Bond?

My internet service has gone to “unlimited” so now I can sorta replace my DVD.COM with streaming. So far have watched THE DIG and THE GREAT WALL. The dig was about the discovery of the Sutton Hoo treasure. Ralph Fiennes did a really excellent job as the discoverer of the horde. THE WALL was a silly confection. Take away the CGI and there would be almost nothing left. No performances to comment on.

I know that many Wehrmacht officers joined the party for the sake of their careers, without much affection for party doctrine. Rommel was never a member and survived due to his early friendship with Hitler. That didn’t last.

You can't trust a politician. Or a general who becomes a Nazi to protect his career.

I stayed up way past my bedtime and watched RED II last night. Cast is Bruce Willis, Sara Jessica Parker, Helen Mirren, John Malcovich, David Thewlis has a bit part. I think Helen Mirren stole the show. She's hilariously deadpan.

Watched Acidman with Thomas Hayden Church last night. It was a good movie until about 20 minutes in somebody shot his GSP. Had to turn it off.

"Phantom" with Ed Harris, David Duchovny, and the guy who played the blind astronomer in "Contact". Very entertaining. They all were Soviet sailors in a diesel boat. Story is based upon a mysterious sinking of a Soviet boat in the Pacific.

"K-19 The Widowmaker", another Submarine movies from 20 years ago. Better than I expected. Based on a true story. The Soviet Navy seems to have had a lot of submarine accidents. Shoddy workmanship I expect. As I once heard from a mechanic in The Workers Paradise, "The pretend to pay us. We pretend to work."
