Tried to watch the Lenord Bernstein movie, gave up not my cup of tea.Watched My Sailor My Love on Prime good movie I have a big stack of his recordings and I love his music. I don't care one whit about his personal life. The movie industry is bound and determined to push the gay stuff on us whether we want it or not. I don't have a problem with gay people, we have a lot gay friends. But they have class and I don't hang out in their bedrooms. I bet that movie would have done much better if not for the gay overtones. Maybe it's just the truth and the only way to tell the story. I just choose not to watch.

I guess I don't have a big problem with it, but I choose not to watch it.

I am staying away from the Maestro topic because I don't care and I don't have Netflix and most importantly don't want to feed the trolls or the gremlins that poke them.

Leaving all that aside and I, too, have Gay friends, watched the first two episodes of "Reacher". The USA 110th MP CID Special Investigator's are on another roll. Evil doers beware! This show often reminds me of my encounters with US Army MPs as a young man riding my Norton too fast through a nearby base. I would be 2 MPH over the speed limits and pow! So, once I said something like "You guys are always on me." To which the same MP Sergeant replied, "Don't F@%k Up on Base." Simple, straightforward advice which I soon took to heart. Kept my speed 1 MPH BELOW the posted limit from then on. I had to pass through this residential part of the base, Officer's family quarters, to access a beautiful road along the Pacific Ocean.

I think this is the best movie I watched in 2023. Not an excess of dialogue--in fact, it is almost like a story told in pictures. Turn on the subtitles. The only streaming service I have is Hulu--so I do not know how widely available it is.

Hercule Poirot On BritBox... we only stream television and have several shows we watch without having to deal with all the “real world issues “

Ken Russell's great movie from 1980, "Altered States". I have seen it a few times and it holds up well. Great visual effects. The "science" and philosophy are intriguing to me. Great cast. Easy to dismiss as bunch of mumbo jumbo but there are some truths lurking in there. All that aside, still very entertaining.

The only streaming service I have is Hulu--so I do not know how widely available it is. If you want to check out other streaming services but don’t want to be on the hook, talk to friends and family, some can be shared, some cannot. We pay for a few channels, daughter and sis in law do also and between the three of us we share the log-in/ passwords. I am sure that some streaming services are not happy about that, and they have figured out (I am sure by Isp adressses) how to not allow it, but for the ones that do, you are not in violation. Dont forget to download the app for the streaming services if you have a smartphone, it makes it nice when you are travelling, staying at hotels. For flights, you can download the movies since most flights do not have free wi-fi.

"Devotion", 2022. The story of the first USN Aviators to engage in conflict at the start of the Korean War. The story of Jesse Brown, Ensign. An Afro-American who endured much to become a Naval aviator. Flying F4 Corsairs in combat. Brown and wingman get jumped by a Chinese MIG15 but they overcome. True story. Good movie.
The R2800 Double Wasp was a handful in this plane apparently. Too much throttle caused enough torque to flip the plane at low speeds and we see that happen when a pilot attempts a Carrier deck landing.

"Jet Attack", a low budget Korean War movie that did not need to be made. Highly contrived. John Agar and Audrey Totter as a Russian Nurse. Lots of stock footage of F86 jets in combat. I never knew the North Koreans and Ruskies drove Chevrolet trucks and cars. The things you learn from these movies,

"Sweeny 2". A British cops and robbers movie with John Thaw, later "Morse" on TV. Good action with lots of humor. For example, the Metro Police Flying Squad gets a call that a man is attempting to disarm a bomb in his hotel room. So, they poor into the hotel. Sweeny decides to let the man continue after sending one detective up to the room to check after admonishing him NOT to slam any doors. The rest of the cops go into the bar where whisky and gin flows liberally. Eventually, the man brings the disarmed bomb down to the bar and he is promptly arrested.

True Grit 2010 with Jeff Bridges to me better than the John Wayne version. The remake has many improvements in the cast. I prefer Jeff Corey as Tom Chaney. His whining was much more heartfelt. "Everything happens to me. Now I am shot by a child." Both Lucky Ned Peppers were great. Dennis Hopper was the better Moon. Both Stonehills were great but Strother Martin has the edge. I liked Glenn Campbell as Ranger La Boeuf but Matt Damon has the edge on that role. As for Mattie, no question Hailee was perfect.

I think pretty much everybody in the original has the edge on the remake, Corey and Martin, especially. Glen Campbell couldn't act for sh*t, but somehow Matt Damon came down to his level. I'd call the Mattie performances a wash.

Just watched Oppenheimer. Good film, fantastic acting by an amazing cast. Not my favorite director, I think he goes out of his way to make his movies confusing. But overall, 9/10

A festival of old Universal Horror Movies with Boris Karloff which are seldom shown. A DVD of Karloff Classics. "The Black Castle", "The Dark Door", "The Tower of London", among others. Universal studio could really make creepy atmospheric movies back in the day.
