I just found the entire album on YouTube and listened to some of it. I found "The Bear" interesting: "And some folks even see the bear in me." I have never been a Lyle Lovett fan, but I found some of these covers really good. Thanks for posting that--bear in a bear suit.

I'm the same with regard to Lovett. He's had a track here and there I've enjoyed, but that's about it. Except for this. I already loved Townes van Zandt, but usually I don't like anybody's versions of his songs except his, but I do like Lovett's covers. He's got the right feel for them. (Most people just turn them into standard country songs.) Disc 2 is my favorite.

I've been a big fan of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings since I saw them doing some songs from their first album on "Sessions at West 54th", back in the late '90s. They're unbelievable musicians. So, sure, why not throw in John Paul Jones on mandolin and do a Zep tune?

Love them (Welch/Rawlings). There is an excellent YouTube video available of their live performance at St. Luke's in London from years ago. So from Americana-type musicians performing a Led Zeppelin song, to an Irish Bouzouki player's interpretation of an Iron Maiden tune. Beth Patterson's video here was recorded at Yo Mama's Bar and Grill in New Orleans.

Lyle Lovett lives just outside of Houston and can be found playing local pretty easy. That is when he is not on tour.

Saw Virgil Fox perform this in Houston years ago. Great performer, very magnetic. Unfortunately, the hall did not have a pipe organ and he had to use an electronic organ. Huge difference. Shortly after, a music minister at our church did his Masters recital on the churches 118 rank Aeolian Skinner pipe organ, which is the only way to hear it.

Well, that one guy from Milk Carton Kids plays similarly, but that's because he's copying David Rawlings. Iron Maiden on a bouzouki. What a world it is we live in.

Well, if you had ever had it, you would know. 😆 Also from 1969. We never missed it. My wife's pet Welshman watched with us and he laughed at a lot of places that we didn't know were supposed to be funny. Or, he might have been messing with us. He was like that.

This anthology was put together by a local musician/producer. Luther Dickinson's kid.

OMG. I just heard Jim Stafford Wildwood weed. For the first time in years. I had to send it to my 25yo son, whom I am sure has never heard it.

Right now I’m listening, not by choice, to the incredibly annoying music being played by an ice cream truck. It’s making me angry.
