Muzzleloader Magazine has done a decent job of it for 50 years now. How to, history, gun making and historical trekking articles. I always enjoy reading it. I have never subscribed though. Just copies off the rack or from shows. I’ve always had one or two gun magazine subscriptions active and have to say that there is really not much new under the sun. Everyone copies the newest craze or trend. The only thing that keeps me subscribed is pricing around 50 cents an issue. Once in a blue moon something interesting gets written or someone comes out with a truly interesting gun or innovation.

Yup. I get a couple of mostly free mags. I scan them and chunk them. I skip over the tests on the $5k 1911s, anything with a pivoting piece on the trigger, any magnum bigger than the 44,etc.

Or any other boutique status gun. I like the reviews of classic firearms and wish there were more. $3000 hunting rifles bore me just as bad as the high end 1911s.

HANDLOADER is about the only firearm-related magazine I have much respect for anymore. All the rest are market adjuncts. Even the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN pimps for advertisers. Not a big surprise, makes perfect sense. You’re not going to get a gun-maker to buy advertising if you run down his products. Not very helpful for the consumer, however.

I read a friend’s copies of Handloader for about ten years, but even got tired of that publication. It is well done content.
