Stumbled onto a couple aromatic tins last night that I do not remember cracking. Sutliff Barbados Plantation that was still moist and was a great smoke. Today: MacBaren Vanilla cream...drier, but not dried out, off to the mason jar...a good smoke in a large bulldog.

I’m having a bowl of GH Scotch Mix in a Peterson spigot billiard. Monkeying around on the computer before we have some friends by for dinner.

I'm about to light up some Haunted Bookshop for the inaugural smoke of my MM Charles Towne cob (the bowl on mine isn't this dark):

Hmm, I dunno. I can't say I was much impressed by this experience. Of course, it was the cob's first smoke, so it's possible I was tasting cob smoke as much as tobacco.

I broke a new country gentleman in just yesterday, wasn't great urbino, also very 'cobby' (or at least I think that's what it was), I've got a good few cobs by now, this was definitely the most 'cobby' on a first smoke.

Old Gowrie in an il Ceppo Dublin: What an absolutely beautiful pipe, Urb! Thanks, Russ. It's a good deal darker than that, now, but that grain is still there.

I've smoked cobs before, but not much and it's been a while. I don't remember getting this flavor from one, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Earlier had a bowl of Borkum Riff Whiskey in the Irish Seconds Rhodesian... Now for a bowl that I assembled yesterday of Irish Flake in the Daniel Billings ModCob... A large sweet tea alongside...

First few smokes are kinda corny. Stick with it. You'll also get some wood smoke as you burn into the shank for the first few bowls. Once you get a coating of char, you'll be okay.

Bunch of bowls in a few pipes while we had company. Now, it's time for a quiet bowl of Haunted Bookshop in the Saturday cob, then off to bed.

Revisiting an evergreen topic in pipe smoking circles, these seem like good reasons not to recommend cobs to new smokers.

Especially a bowl with a mysterious coating. YMMV.

I love the corn taste on a new cob, and the glisten as the oils come to tye surface. Probably an evil way to get people to buy more cobs 😂
