Revisiting an evergreen topic in pipe smoking circles, these seem like good reasons not to recommend cobs to new smokers. I dunno. Same can be said with a new briar pipe. Especially a bowl with a mysterious coating. YMMV. I've never experienced this with a briar, though. It just doesn't burn that easily. It'll scorch, of course, and you might have a burnout if there's a flaw in the briar, but in general briar doesn't burn easily (the whole point, which isn't news to you, of course).
I'll try some other blends I'm more familiar with and see how they do in the cob.

By the time you try five other blends in it, the cob will already be smoking better than your briars. Also suggest smoking it back to back to back. Just keep smoking bowls in the cob, one genre after the other. The cob doesn’t actually burn. You can try all you might, smoke the same cob 15 times a day. You’ll never burn it out. I have Mark Twains with 10,000 bowls smoked through them. Your biggest hump is the first handful of slow smoked bowls and then it just smokes better from there.

Good Sunday Morning! It's 42°, damp with a cloudy sky, and everything is wet from overnight rain. Late this afternoon we'll be going to the daughter's house for the Easter Holiday dinner that is always Polish food in honor of our heritage. Starting the smoking day with a bowl of fresh HH Pure VA Flake in the Savinelli Venere 128 rusticated billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a good one everybody!

Wife asks me if you have new pictures a couple of times a week. Always enjoy your posts. I suppose she is saying that she wants to go to Greece. If only we could.
Great ! Your wife is from Texas too? _________________________

Good Morning Again! It's 41° right now, still cloudy, and very damp. Just lit up a bowl of Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake in the Sav rusticated billiard while occasionally sipping my coffee. Time to check the headline news.

Currently smoking a bowl of Limerick Flake in the Sav rusticated billiard while sipping the rest of my coffee. I'll finish up this pipe and then head back to the house. In the meantime, I'll check out some more headline news. Happy Easter to all of my Christian friends!

Good morning. Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake in a bulldog. Coffee.... Great Bulldog...which brand is it?Thanks. It's a Saseini second (sort of like a basket pipe) Tinder Box sold years ago. It has a Saseini stamp on one side of the shank, Tinder Box on the other side.

Another round of RL-PR in the same Diplomat as last night, as I sip on my first coffee, and figure out witch briar to smoke next.

Happy Easter Sunday morning all. I’m smoking a Stanwell Rhodesian topped up with GH Dark Birds Eye. It’s clear and brisk here, a good day to relax and spend time with family. I hope you all enjoy your day.
