I started keeping one in 1962. I probably shouldn't say “one” since I have stopped and started a number of times. They started as handwritten, then went to type-written, and finally transitioned to the computer, type-script at first. A couple of years ago I went to GoodNotes, a really fantastic app. It has a great dictation feature. The original speech-to-text was hit or miss and not at all worth the trouble IMO. Now it is something else entirely. Very reliable and amazingly accurate and error-free, and I can drop images into the text anywhere I want. It is also in-machine and no longer sends it out, which saves a lot of bandwidth and keeps everything at home. Anybody else addicted?

I have kept one at various times over the years. Still have the one from my 18th year. A good meditation on one's life and something I would like to do more of.

Not familiar with Good Notes. Will have to look into it. I'm a note taker, but I've never journaled. I can't tolerate myself well enough to write about me. (I know, that's not necessarily what journaling is.)

I want to leave something for my son to understand my life. And anyone else who cares. It's been a good, interesting life I have had a lot of adventures and experiences, and I got my threescore and 1Q. Can't complain. The issue is that my memories come when they want to, not when I'm ready to write.

One of the great ironies of my life is that I love to write, but only do what I consider decent writing when I’m under stress or unhappy. During rough patches I think journaling is a great way to “get things sorted”. Same with music. But when I’m content, the words don’t come like they do when I’m not content.
When I’m content, I take a lot of pictures.

It's one of the things I've recently started doing after Pam passed away. I'm going old school though. I bought some journal books and fountain pens. Sometimes I'll just sit down and just start writing whatever comes into my head.

Clears things out of your head, or something. I can't quite remember.

Sometimes I'll just sit down and just start writing whatever comes into my head. I do the same in regards to good writing paper, ink and fountain pens. As in many topics in the internet age (see pipes), there are whole communities devoted to fountain pens. Luckily I was never bit by the fountain pen bug, so I just have a couple that are reasonably priced and functional. I think it’s therapeutic to write with pen ink and paper.

I keep a pipe journal on my iPhone. I enter data while letting my pipe cool down before cleaning. Check out this link: Boximize

There was a fountain pen thread on here long ago it seems. I know that another pipe forum I'm on has a very active pen discussion.
