My hotel room is booked and I’ve pre-ordered my ticket for the Show.
If anyone else is going this year, be sure to visit chicagopipeshow.com and read the information there. Several changes for the Show this year. Some schedule switch ups so don’t assume everything is on its usual day and time. Also, in past years, you just had to buy an entry ticket to go into the vendor halls. Now, you have to buy a 4 day Show pass for $50 which you have to have to enter anything at the Show including the smoking tent. There is a pre-order 10% discount until something like March 10 or 11.
I'll be there for my usual Thursday afternoon through Monday morning.

All set to arrive Friday afternoon. I see significant changes to the schedule, which are improvements for me: the Swap has moved from before the Show to later - this should help the vendors who have paid for show tables, when customers don't shoot their wad before the main event. And the Slow Smoke is Saturday, thereby no causing schedule binds for folks needing to fly or drive home on Sunday. My roomie got beset by famblyt issues, but I'm a coming anyway.

Although my wife reminds me that I just got that Eltang a week and a half ago. My intent is to keep it down to 2 or maybe 3 really great pipes rather than a bunch of good pipes. My real goal is to find a few decent deals on aged tins. I’ll be stopping past the NASPC table to see if they still have any tins of Curmudgeon on the Can left. I seem to smoke through a tin of that rather quickly. I’ll also be checking out Greywoodie's table as he has a new batch of Kaywoodies. Bill started them before he got sick and he recently asked Nathan to finish them. If Mads from Denmark shows up, I'm doomed though. He is an estate dealer and brings Stanwells the like of which we never saw in the US.

Nice news on the Kaywoodies. Any chance Nathan (or whomever) continues the business? A lot of us hope so. I bought the very last Yello Bowl before they went away. I haven't smoked it because, 230 pipes. I just wanted to see what so many others raved about. I will eventually smoke it. It's a Dublin and I like the way they they smoke with some blends.

I held out for 2.5 hours today before I bought a pipe at the Show. My second Jason Patrick. Last year, he brought 14 pipes and sold out by Friday. This year, he brought 15 pipes. One called to me and I wasn’t about to wait and think about it because it would go fast. The pipe is a group 2 to 3 blasted Lovat with mammoth tooth stem accent. I’ll upload a pic when I get a chance.

Glad to hear that my secret superpower of pipe enabler is still working. 😂 I love all my new toys, but I am especially happy with my Dunhill finds. Before the Show, I didn’t own any patent era Dunhills and my oldest was 1955. The '49 Shell is my first with that old time craggy moon crater blast. The '39 Bruyere was a coup as the seller hadn’t decoded date pricing and had it priced more like a '60s Root Briar. 😎 I’ve dealt with that dealer several times. So, I did give him a chance to change his mind on his pricing. He didn’t and although he is a dealer who will usually negotiate price, I paid him what it was marked. 😀

I had a good time at the show but my haul this year was small. I added another Jeremiah Sandahl to this growing collection. We have plans for more. I picked up a couple of books, a couple of tins and a few pounds of bulk tobacco but I didn’t see any pipes I was interested in. I don’t mind because usually a must have piece shows up around this time. Other than the tub shower I loved the new locations the restaurants were good and well staffed and my roommate enjoyed the balcony. I hope the club and the hotel did well and we establish a new tradition here. The room is very flexible with lots of room to grow! Sunday afternoon in the tent I smoked the first bowl with some vintage Balkan Sobranie kindly gifted by my buddy Abi. That’s Jeremiah in the background.
