Are you cellaring tobacco? How is that going for you? Any details you'd like to share with the community would be appreciated. I have approximately 10 lbs of tobacco....Most of it is Captain Black Original, Stokkebye English bulk blends and Rattray's tobaccos.

My cellar is 'round about 100 lbs. It's stupid. But, there it is. Only a little bit of it is intentional cellaring -- i.e., intentionally aging stuff. The rest is just surplus. It's the back room where I can go find stuff when something specific is requested (by me).

I’m between 170 and 175 lbs and pretty much set for life probably. My cellar was once just a 35 to 40 lb aging queue of mostly Virginia and English blends. When the proposed FDA Deeming regulations came out in 2016, I stepped up my buying. I haven’t been buying much for the past couple years; about 4 to 5 lbs a year (I smoke 8 to 9 lbs a year) Now just mostly picking up good deals on aged tins at pipe shows.

Currently about 230 lbs. A large part of the cellar is for aging, as a hedge against discontinuation and inflation. The rest of the cellar is a stockpile of frequently smoked stuff. There are also bulk quantities of blending tobaccos.

I don’t really have a good guess as to how much tobacco I have, but it’s a lot. At least 600+ tins plus jars, bulk and leaf.

William Blake
I’m still pondering if it’s enough of the right stuff, so I guess I’ve got to get more.

Oh my. I'm feeling a little diminutive compared to most of you guys, 😂 Hey I'm only starting out,, and tabac is soooo expensive this side of the pond, average now is over £20 for a 50g tin, plus, in the UK they've really been hammering smokers of all descriptions this past few years. When I first started the pipe, average price was £13. We are expecting our THIRD 'one-off' duty increase in October, taking prices possibly to over £25 a tin. So, two and a half years in, I have squirrelled away just over 5lbs, plus a bit more in bulk jarred up. Mainly doing it now to beat the coming prohibition. Cause they keep hinting that's where we're going.

I don't have a lot of tobacco in my "cellar", the bottom drawer of my dresser, about three pounds or so. My tobacco budget has always been enough for a monthly order, but I have managed to put some away for aging over the years. It's all of my favorites such as BBF, FVF, Limerick Flake, ten tins each of Dunhill Flake and Dunhill Dark Flake, Wessex Brown VA Flake, etc. I just added a tin of Scottish Flake yesterday.

I have a lot of tobacco that it's looking less and less likely that I will ever get to smoke Probably 50-60 pounds total.

Between 50 and 60 pounds, have not ordered a lot in the last couple of years. I feel pretty fortunate to have been able to cellar what I have with the help of a few good friends. I would like to add a couple of blends when I get some room smoked up in my cellar. I do not have near the funds I used to have to work with.

My sorting day in 2018, it has grown to probably another half as much...concentrated on McClellands before they pulled the plug... and hard to get Gawith stuff and Peter Heinrichs when their stuff was better.

Gawith Brown Bogie, the gallon mason? Jar slides neatly in the bag.
From that point in time, I just bought tins… in the case of bulk plugs though, I jarred a bit.
Looking at the C&D small batch in the pic, that was when I just got my feet wet…

I did the math once, if you smoke 1 bowl per day, it's 2.4 lbs per year. If I live 30 more years, I need 72 pounds. But what if I retire and end up smoking 5 bowls per day? Or if tobacco goes away and I want to share with friends? My cellar probably looks similar to trailboss but in the beginning, I was smoking a fair amount of aromatics and alot of english. Early on, I bought heavy on things I enjoyed then. I hardly ever smoke those now. My cellar has 50% english, some aromatics and the rest virginia blends. I feel like I'm starting over now that I'm tuned into what I like. The problem now is, those are becoming harder and harder to find. My cellar ought to be 75% virginia blends, 20% english and 5% aromatics. Time to start buying again......as soon as I can find them.

Oh yeah, I'm certain I will some day, but I'd like to shore up my deficits before I go that route. And I'm sure most people wouldn't want my Plum Pudding and Pirate Cake for their Gawith's and Capstan's (just as an example).

If you go to the west coast pipe show this year, pack up what you do not want, and offer it for sale in the smoking lounge. If you cannot make it there, vacuum seal it and sell it on tinbids, but there is the customary fee.

I'm not sure exactly how much I have. A few pounds, not much really. Some of the ones that I like, aren't really sold in any large amounts at a discount that I know of.

I’ve well realized that if it weren’t for our “cellaring,” the pipe tobacco industry would’ve already dried up. With our cellaring, we are buffering and accounting for the purchases of thousands more pipe smokers that do not exist.
I have a bedroom in my house that is for tobacco. The aging is going well and I do have tobaccos purposely aging, while others are aging because I frankly can’t get to a good 50 blends I haven’t tried yet because I have too many jars of blends to whittle down. Mostly a good problem to have. Haven’t kept track of the total weight in several years, somewhere just North of a couple hundred pounds.
