I suspect that many of us here might have a “thing” for flashlights. I know I do. My eyes are such that I find a flashlight very useful in situations where younger eyes might not need one at all. And over the years I have accumulated a small collection of practical, useful lights. For a number of years now my go-to house and truck light is a Browning Disruptor that puts out 2600 lm and has a 500 yard reach. It’s what I use routinely to check out things that go bump in the night. For an everyday quick access light I have been using a Nightcore EDC 27. This is a flat light that fits perfectly in a pistol magazine holder, so it’s always right at hand when needed— and I seem to need one a lot. Despite its small size it puts out a solid 3000 lm. There is a slight learning curve to the button presses on this light, something I have never found on any other instrument, but they are soon mastered. On my bedside table I keep a fully charged Nightcore P16. It’s only 960 lm but seems much brighter than that. I imagine that those of us who like flashlights have our own favorites.

I have a bunch of flashlights. My main on is a highly modified 5D Maglight. It'll barely shine through a wooden fence. I have night vision binocs that work better for seeimg what's happening in the yard at night.

Pretty happy with my Fenix PD35, 1700 Lumens and the strobe light feature. Is pretty robust. On my keychain, I have a Fenix E03R v2… pretty handy and puts out 500 Lumens, with some nice features.
Both are rechargeable.

I use a Nitecore MH20 about 90% of the time. I've got a honkin' big, 4-LED Olight that lives in the truck.

I use a Fenix PD35 TAC most of the time, outstanding flashlight. In the car I keep a 5 C cell Maglite in easy reach.

I'm partial to Surefires, I think they are a little expensive compared to other lights in the same category, but I just like them. YMMV

After years of avoiding them I started using Olights about 5 years ago. Say what you will but for size, firepower, battery life, and cost they are hard to beat for edc lights. I’ve been using a couple s2r2s and s2s for 5 years and an ark field for about a year. Great lights all around.

My oldest daughter, who has been into camping, hiking, and outdoor activities for years, got me into headlamps, and what I mostly use now instead of a flashlight is a Petzl Tikka. Meanwhile my little keychain light gave up the ghost some months ago, and I've been looking for another. That Fenix E03R v.2 looks good, Charlie, thank you for posting about it.

My son sent me a Luminshield Nitecore EDC29… this thing puts out 6,500 Lumens and 400 meters.
In the light function it is amazing, in the strobe function if you are the recipient, debilitating.
I think it could light your pipe also.

Coincidently, I am working on restoring my old 4 D Cell Kel-Lite from my patrol days. Got in in 1973 and it was a constant companion walking the warehouse district and waterfront in San Francisco on the midnight watch. Not as bright as modern lights but I will be replacing the reflector and adding an LED bulb upgrade. Heavier gauge housing than the Mag Lites with a large heavy head which withstood pounding. Also known as a door knocker.

Picturing it some years back… I talked to several Californian’s from San Diego to SF at the pipe show….. if they are younger and do not know any better, they are where they are at. Pipe smokers that are long in the tooth, facing retirement they are cashing out and moving east. They remember the magical time, I moved there in ‘79, exited in 2005. Early 90’s, California lost it’s lustre. It really turned to shite.

While sitting at a Carl’s Jr… Hardees if you go east. I listened to the playlist… the modern songs by the yute’ will be lucky if anyone listens to them 5 years from now. Certainly, in 20 years they will be in the ash heap… modern music is pretty much garbage.
There are a slim few exceptions.
Maybe I am just getting old.

Reminds me of a time, around 1980 or so, when we were 30-year-old parents of a toddler and I was a little bit bummed about not being in touch with the music that was current then. Then one evening I heard a song on the radio and thought, Hey, I like this. This speaks to me. Maybe I'm not so old and out of touch as I thought.
Then the song ended and the DJ named it. Robin Trower. "Bridge of Sighs." 1974. Oh well. So much for keeping up with the times.
Just to keep things on topic, here's a flashlight.

Great song. But I look ate the amazing artists that have disappeared while the 60s and 70s rock music is still played and popular and I think we had something special. I can't see Taylor Swift albums holding any value. Remember Justin Beiber?

I was around my colleagues this morning, and gave a demonstration of the Nitecore flashlight, I asked for volunteers to take the visual strobe test.
They acted like I was offering a cyanide tablet to ingest. Buncha weenies.

I crossed St. Rose Parkway last night going to dinner in Henderson, tonight I crossed a no lighted sides street from the boulder highway.” In Henderson. In both instances, people drive like bats outta hell, in both instances I had pedestrian right of way and swung the nitecore at 6500 lumens towards the ground as I crossed the streets.
It is super effective!

I just got a red light flashlight so as to not spoil my night vision when looking over the stars and referring to my star chart. Very handy.
