Yeah, I bought ours from the a company on the American Astronomy Society website. The fact that fakes are being made, just like prior to the last eclipse, is really scary.

I use a welding helmet with auto darkening.

I got mine from Amazon and I have tested them. Can't see anything but the sun and it's pretty dim. Dimmer than my welding helmet.

I use a welding helmet with auto darkening. First read that as "a wedding helmet" and thought, "Geez, John's wedding must've been like Festivus or something."

This gave me a product idea, “Fake Eclipse” glasses. Have the regular darkened glasses, but rig up two little disks that slide across the lenses. Experience an eclipse any day the sun is shining!

They can also be repurposed as 'light-blocking sleep glasses' for taking naps during the day. That's probably what I'll do.

Reading the story, I see the word "Chinese" being prominently mentioned.
Color me not surprised.
Buy a welding hood from Harbor Freight, return it they have an unconditional return policy. More than likely Chinese made also, but it will do the job.

I have number 8 welding lens just the proper lens for starring at the sun. Best of all I know it is my desk drawer cause you have to be ready for a eclipse and the five minutes of excitement.

I know this is the last eclipse of my lifetime, but I have seen them before. I get 53 seconds of totality without leaving home. I doubt that I would spend any money or effort in any case. It's a natural phenomenon. It happens. You can see it on videos. It's like the Grand Canyon. Saw pictures and movies all my life and it was my ambition to go there. When I finally got there, I spent thousands of dollars and I was walking with 2 canes. I should have just watched a National Park video

For me it was the opposite, after I walked over the ridge at the south rim it opened up...My, oh my. But then again, I was only on the hook for a tank of gas to get there. I hear if you agree to be strapped to the landing skid of a GC helicopter ride, you can go for 1/2 price.

I've seen the Cliffs of Moher and Santa Elena and Boquillas Canyons on the Rio Grand. The Rio Grand Canyons you can easily hike to the top and bottom. I've walked through many smaller canyons in New Mexico and Colorado. I like canyons. I hope to visit Caprock Canyon in the next year or so. I guess that I had the most fun at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Most anything I see these we will from the road, unless I get a chance to go off road with somebody else.

Worth a shot Don. down here the weather man is calling for rain so the whole thing might be a wash for the Houston area.

I always wanted to do Palo Duro canyon. I wanted to take my boys when they were about 13 and 15. We talked about it a bunch, but never did do it. Maybe my son would still like to try it. Did you notice my HINT? 😁
