Unfortunately, no time to have a pipe. We had winds of 85 mph and an E1 tornado touched down Thursday night. No electricity and 4 died in the Houston area.

Glad you're safe, Geoff, even if you're gonna be in the 19th century for a while. Keep us up to date on how it's going. (A pipe requires no electricity. I'm just sayin'.)

Sorry to hear that, I hope you get your electricity restored soon.
When I see the devastation that takes place from storms like that, the magnitude of cleanup and rebuilding I would think would be staggering.
That is one good thing about living in the southwest, not much in the way of earthquakes, tornadoes, flooding, volcanoes, etc….

When I see the devastation that takes place from storms like that, the magnitude of cleanup and rebuilding I would think would be staggering. That is one good thing about living in the southwest, not much in the way of earthquakes, tornadoes, flooding, volcanoes, etc…. I was in 2 tornados in Houston. I mean on my street. I lived in an area called Oak Forest and it lived up to the name. 3 tornados went through side by side and took out over half the trees. Not that much damage to the homes relative to the tree damage, but still a lot. Our oak tree ended up on top of the neighbors house. They were in Sweden at the time and our friend was house sitting for them. She was hysterical. Everyone in the neighborhood had giant chainsaws and had our street cleared in one day, but we didn't have electricity for 18 miserable, hot and humid days. Tornados are actually pretty common in Houston and all along the Gulf Coast. You should have seen the tornados in Corpus Christi from Hurricane Celia in 1970 as we were heading for higher ground. Floods have always been a way of life in Houston along with floods. It's just going to get worse too.

We got lucky and had power restored in 24 hours saving meself and the better half a hotel bill. Because AC is a must and lights and TV make it enjoyable. I hope you get back to normal ASAP and God bless.

Now it's time to have a bowl of Peter Stokkebye's Proper English.
Yes, Mr Urb, the house is in fine order. We were certainly blessed.

Finally got hold of the rest of our friends in Houston. Everyone is OK, a couple were without power for a few hours. Our friends who live on 1.5 acres close to downtown and they lost one tree at the back of their property. So, another storm. Death toll is up to 7 now. Houston can use all the prayers y'all can spare.

I know that those giant power transmission towers are supposed to be rated to 160 mph winds and they are twisted like the foil off a baked potato. They are saying it was a 100mph derecho. Some things aren't adding up. Let's look at the engineers and contractors on those towers.

Jeepers creepers! Electricity back off again. 🤨 We looked at a Generac standby generator but the installation was going to be $10k.

5kw will run the whole house and that includes AC. Once the main is off power the whole ball of wax through the drier plug in.

My old 2700 watt still works great after 6 years so why not? I have an outside plug for a generator but it's the "wrong" socket. On a 60 amp breaker. I have the parts to change it, but I don't have the energy.

Power back. Sounds like a good little generator you have there, Mr. Ron. Haven't run it yet. Harbor Freight had it 30% off on sale and they've already replaced it with a new model. Obsolete and still in the box.

Got a 17kw Kohler Gen about 18 yrs ago, helped with the installion and cost was 10,000$ total., it’s still functioning, if I have to replace it they don’t make a 17kw but it’s 22kw for 5500$, I love the air cooled , no coolant to worry about.
