Cigarettes are primarily Virginia tobacco. In Canada, yes. In the US, it’s more Burley than Virginia. Camels are supposedly Turkish and Virginia. That is what I used to smoke when I smoked cigarettes. I probably would still like them, but chose to give them up many years ago.

"A typical American cigarette would have a blend of flue-cured tobacco (35%), Burley tobacco (23%), Oriental tobacco (15%), and reconstituted sheet (27%)."

I watched a video after reading your comment. The reconstituted sheet that you referenced seems like the tobacco equivalent of instant coffee.

The last several years I stuffed my own using a hand crank machine, filtered tubes, and tobacco of my choice. It's how I first got into understanding tobacco. Mark Ryan of Daughters and Ryan produced many exceptional cigarette blends. Most of those are now offered as pipe blends. I mostly smoked 3 Sails which is a shag cut trio of lighter VAs. As pointed out in this thread American manufactured cigarettes are pure trash. The exception perhaps being American Spirit.

Mark Ryan got a bad rap on some forums when he had unadulterated tobaccos for those that chose to roll your own started using pipe tobacco as a cheaper/ better option for those that chose to do so.
The tobacco haters were going to do what they were going to do regardless.
He is a pretty cool cat, and I am thankful for his contribution to the hobby. I only regret not buying up all of his stock that he had shipped back to LA. After the pre-covid pipe show in Vegas.

But Mark's stuff was several levels above the relabeled cheap stuff. Plus I believe he still "owns" perique, which is kinda cool. It's interesting to me that JimInks smokes a lot of D&R based on his check ins on another forum.

Long gone State Express London Mixture. Made by same manu as both Balkan Sobraines. No idea the menu, sure enjoyed it. Guessing it was gone by early 70s

And even rarer, is both Jiminks and Steve Fallon giving it a perfect score. www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/7855/state-express-london-mixture/“ Used to come with a Xanthi leaf on top the tobacco and earlier tins had an old English penny taped to the bottom for opening the tin.” That is pretty neat!
