Which pipe tobacco do you pine for, though for one reason or another you haven't been able to get it? Feel free to elaborate.

McClelland oriental mixture 14 it seems pretty rare on the resellers and when it does show up I'm usually outbid pretty fast so I just gave up on having it again. I cant justify 50-65 dollars for a 2 oz tin. Its good and I love it but I dont think its that's good. For whatever reason their orientals didn't get the love their virginias did. I also would like to try 40th anniversary blend as I was perpetually broke when that was out so missed out on getting a tin. Im not chasing either of these blends as I got so much other stuff in the cellar its not worth the expense I just kick myself on #14.

I can't seem to find Germain's Brown Flake here in the States. I saw some tinned Germain’s that is not readily available on line at Hiland’s when I picked up cigars a few weeks back. But.. they are not listed on the website, I saw Bob’s chocolate flake, and Royal Jersey… I do not recall if there was brown flake, the tins were stacked and I did not look at them for fear of temptation… I do not need any more tobacco, knew I was spending more than I should on cigars. I got the look that Alice Kramden gave Ralph when I got in the car and divulged what I had spent. If I did not have severe time constraints for the next week, I would drive up and check it out, buy it and send it on. It may be worth a call. www.hilandscigars.com/contact-us/Going forward, I need to drop in there semi regularly and see what is on hand.

I've got a lifetime supply of every tobacco I want. I've tried the unobtainable blends and I didn't like any of them. I'm spoiled I guess. I have a tin of Squadron Leader that I've been meaning to open for 12 years.

If you go to the Las Vegas pipe show, line up early and scour the tobacco tables. Some prices will probably not be palatable, but some are just selling off the cellars not looking to making a killing. I never really look because there is not much I am hankering for, but as johnlawitzke has shared in the past, he has gotten some pretty good deals at the pipe shows on some great blends.

I can’t think of anything that falls into that category for me. I have been able to get every tobacco that I’ve wanted to try and I have far more of everything than I need. I do wish that many tobaccos that have either changed due to companies closing/getting sold and ones no longer produced were still available, but those aren’t really alluding me as much as they don’t exist anymore. Even in those cases, I have my special reserve supplies.

Yes, there are deals to be found at pipe shows. Of course, it helps to know market values. You'll find sellers across the spectrum from dealers who know what they have and are proud of their prices to the other end of the spectrum of people downsizing their cellars with stuff priced to sell. I don’t go looking for super expensive unicorns. I go looking for decent deals on 5 to 10 year old tins. Sometimes you find someone selling one thing that they don’t realize the value of what they’re selling. Sometimes you find someone with intentionally low prices to make sure they sell their stuff. A couple examples of stuff I’ve found… 7 year old 8oz can of GLP Union Square for $30 when online new was $35. 7 to 10 year old 2oz tins of GLP Embarcadero for $20 or less. 8oz can of 15 year old C&D Yorktown for $30. 1990s 14oz can of Edgeworth Ready Rubbed for $50. I usually come home from a pipe show with 1 to 3 lbs of aged tins.

My grail blend is McClelland’s Tudor Castle, but there are so many blends out there that I don’t chase after anything. I do get to the pipe show early with the sole intent of bagging an entire sack full of aged tins and running them back up to my hotel room immediately. Favorite gone blends of mine are: McC Tudor Castle Gawith Hoggarth Revor Plug Motzek Strang McClelland VA and various VaPer flakes Yachtsman Plug Mick McQuaid OG Bell’s original Three Nuns VaPer I do miss many others, like a large handful of HU Tobaccos but I no longer attempt to hassle ordering them from Germany.

I don't like the idea of really liking a blend I can't readily get, so I don't go looking for the rare stuff. If I happen across a tin of something I'm really curious about, sometimes I'll snag it. I've bought a few from members here who were cleaning out their cellars, for example.

Being just a few bowls into my fourth package of Sir Walter Raleigh, I cannot say that any tobacco has eluded me. That said, I am somewhat intrigued by a blend that seems to evoke emotional responses from people: Captain Black Grape
Are there any other blends that polarize people in the same manner as Captain Black Grape or is it an anomaly?

Yeah, CBG is probably unique, but Mixture 79 would be up there. Silver's favorite, Haunted Bookshop, tends to get pretty polarized responses, too.

Haunted Bookshop is a burley-heavy blend from Cornell & Diehl. A lot of people will hardly smoke anything else. A lot of people find it extremely off-putting and cigarette-like.

Are most cigarettes burley or burley-heavy blends? I dislike the smell of cigarettes but the Sir Walter Raleigh that I smoke says "classic burley smoking tobacco" on the package and I do not get that cigarette smell from it.

But that tobacco also is heavily processed and treated with a host of chemicals to make it as addictive as possible, to be frank. Nonetheless, a fair number of people say HB reminds them of cigarettes.

Cigarettes are primarily Virginia tobacco. In Canada, yes. In the US, it’s more Burley than Virginia.
