This morning I smoked Boswell's Sweet Dreams in a 2023 Christmas Peterson XL11. Great smoke, but here's the deal. I bought this pipe last year and have not smoked it until today when I could not find my misplaced Sav 320. It smoked just fine. No hard drawing or anything. Afterwards, I cleaned out the bowl with paper towels as I always do and tried to run a pipe cleaner through it. I hit a block so I took the stem off and shined a light from my phone into the shaft. There is no visible draft hole. None! if there is one, I can't see it. I tried running a safety pin into where I thought it was and could not get it in. I put the stem back on and blew into it and could feel the air. Covered the bowl with my hand, blew again and of course, could not blow into it. There might be a tiniest of holes that not even a safety pin could enter, but how is that even possible? Again, it smoked fine this time, but it is sure to stop up in time. Does anyone have experience with this? I am thinking maybe I should try drilling it, but I am very unhandy with tools and I am afraid I will mess it up completely. Anyone have any advise on what I should do? Thanks!

Actually in the top side of the mortise as you said. I have never encountered that, but then again, this is my first full bend Pete. Is that the way they always are? I guess I am happy about it though, it really was a great smoke and not so hard to clean now that I know where to locate the draft hole. Thank you! Peterson System pipes are special and has been copied by Savinelli and many others. You can't run a pipe cleaner from the stem to the bowl because of the offset. There is a well that collects moisture in the bottom of the pipe.

But now that I know, this one is definitely drilled right. It's a really nice smoking pipe. Other than this Pete, I only have a Pete 80s and a straight Peterson "Park Street". I love the 80s and am not overly thrilled with the Park Street (Peretti-Pete colab). What's the issue with the Park Square? It's just a standard Peterson with a Peretti stamp on the band. I have a couple of straight Pete's that are just fine. |

Other than this Pete, I only have a Pete 80s and a straight Peterson "Park Street". I love the 80s and am not overly thrilled with the Park Street (Peretti-Pete colab). What's the issue with the Park Square? It's just a standard Peterson with a Peretti stamp on the band. I have a couple of straight Pete's that are just fine. It's just my preferences. Probably a fine pipe for some. It is a bit small to me, but it's mostly due to the narrow stem and bit. I have not had a good smoke from it yet. I'm going to try one or two different tobaccos and see if I can become happy with it. I haven't given up on it yet, if I do I will pass it along to someone who will enjoy it. |
