Anybody ever sold estates to SP?
I'm wondering how the do with valuation. I don't have anything of high value. But a few I'd like to move without piecing them out on Ebay.

Nope. Bought a bunch, though.

I think it is a roll of the dice, not being high value, you are not going to get much, as they need to make a profit. They will clean the pipes, and get them looking presentable.
Putting it on Ebay being such is a gamble, and on non high value pieces, people shy away from reserves you might want, and if you want the highest possible price, a good cleaning, buffing, and good measurements/ pictures need to happen.
And the Ebay fees….
SP gives you a for sale price and a higher amount towards purchases.
Never sold any pipes other than some unsmoked Meerschaum figural pipes that I bought at a large lot at a brick and mortar. They looked great, but a cross eyed Turk drilled them… Off to Ebay!

SP doesn't pay but half what they can sell it for and I understand they only pay you in store credit. Read the fine print.

I've never sold to them. Sorry. Generally, anytime you sell to a retail shop, you're not gonna get good value. The tradeoff is you don't have to deal with all the stuff Charlie mentioned.

I'm going to try to sell mine on Tinbids. If they don't sell I'll probably offer them on the forums.

Tinbids: A 99-cent listing fee and an 18.5% commission will be assessed at the time the item sells. Ebay: Insertion fees: free - $0.30 - $0.40 per listing, Final value fees: 13.25% - 15% on average. Ebay can have a bunch of other ways to chisel money out of you. www.wix.com/blog/cost-to-sell-on-ebayBut they have a nasty way of believing lying buyers with little to no history over someone with a stellar sales history. I think they do it to feed cheese to the rats and keep them on the train, a seller with a good reputation can take it in the gut once in awhile, “ they aint going anywhere” Ask me how I know. I have never sold on Instagram, that might be worth checking out.

Just thinking out loud...if there is an instagram seller with an already great reputation one might be able to have an arrangement...
Or Briarworks regularly has a fixed price sales via their email announcements and the pipes go pretty swiftly, it might be worth asking them if that is a possibility.

They recently raised it used to be about on par with ebay. Well, I saw some FMC go for over $250/100gm tin so if I can get those kind of prices it's worth it. Listing on ebay is such a PITA.

My understanding is that you have cash or store credit options when selling to SP. More store credit will be offered than cash. Assuming we’re not talking high grades or super collectible pieces, my understanding g is that the offer will be about a quarter of new price and they'll turn around and sell it for about half of new price.

Pretty much how I have seen it work. One of our pipe club members had some super high grade unobtainiums, and he was quite happy with SP. That is a different realm.

Most people take good care of their high grades. So, the high grade estates are usually in excellent condition. They typically sell for 75% of new on the open market.

In his case, he wisely chose some exquisite pipes, left unsmoked by carvers that are not among the living. Others still among us… Teddy Knudsen double eagle for example… and this one is “just” an eagle. dreamingpipes.com/product/teddy-knudsen-unsmoked-eagle-grade-estate-pipe/There are some deep pockets that money is no object. We should all be so fortunate!
