I work for a company that provides Peritoneal dialysis products for patients to use in their home. On an average day, we have 5 Truckloads of solution (40,000 lbs) unloaded daily at the warehouse we work out of, it comes from Cuernavaca (Morelos) Mexico. That supplies the southwest and west coast, anything east of us is supplied by a plant in North Carolina and the hurricane put 4 feet of mud into the plant and made the bridge to it impassible by motor vehicles.
It must be a logistical nightmare trying to re-allocate product from one region to another, and I heard today that 39,000 orders were cancelled, and I suspect that instead of monthly deliveries, people will get two-week deliveries. Our company was just "spun off" from a company that pioneered dialysis, but they branched off into other healthcare products, the huge Multinational investment group was handed off a stinky diaper in exchange for a four-billion-dollar check. The CEO that spun us off must feel like a lucky duck.
We are going to be swamped and busy as hell in the foreseeable future.

Update: the company that spun us off is on the hook. The transfer has not taken place, so it is what it is… no lucky duck for the CEO.

Best of luck to you. You guys provide a vital service. That is the nice thing, after a career hauling meat, foodservice, Safeway driver, and freight…. Not unusual to have surly customers and consignees getting all pissy. Not the case here, the patients are almost always grateful and appreciative… the few that do not seem that way, we chalk it up to them having hard times and it is not personal.
