54F, light rain expected to fall all day and temperature to drop. Miserable weather for Kentucky Oaks Day. Always run the first Friday in May, the race is restricted to three year old fillies. There was a time when this was considered Louisville's day at the races before the Derby circus was expanded into a two day mega event. Celebrating by popping a tin of McClelland 2017 Christmas Cheer. I rather liked the 2016 version over the holidays and saved the 2017 for this event. Loading it up in a smooth, straight grain, 1/4 bent 2006 Mark Tinsky Rhodesian, drinking Trader Joe's coffee and listening to local radio personalities broadcasting live from Churchill Downs this morning on the radio. Local TV coverage of all the races and festivities picks up later this morning.

Last bowl at work: Even more Nutty Unscented in a Legend. Last cup of coffee for the day. Then home to some sweet Va's and a couple of Latweeds.
TGIF
Enjoy the weekend y'all and stay safe.
Cheers Ant

2017 McClelland Christmas Cheer in an MM Country Gent, drinking ice tea with lemon and enjoying watching today's races at Churchill Downs. No wagers today on the undercard due to the conditions but anxiously awaited the Oaks later. Have a couple picked in that one that have handled off tracks in the past.

Scored some sweet place money on the Oaks but was busted out on the win and Oaks/Derby double so a wash today, appropriate for the soggy weather. 47F at post chilliest Oaks since 1961. Had a bowl of homemade turkey chili for supper. Now having another bowl of 2017 McClelland Christmas Cheer in a smooth James Upshall Tilshead Canadian, getting ready to get the blanket out, settle into the easy chair with the Friday night PBS line up and probably crash hard when the sun goes down.

Getting ready for some roasted pork, salad and garlic toast. Then I am going to fire up the chimenea, make a cup of coffee and smoke at least two pipes. Weather was in the mid 80s today and the warmth is lingering. Probably start with Walnut in one of my cobs. After that probaby Blockade Runner in an RC Sands rustic bent billiard.

Enjoying a bowl of Revor Plug in my Baraccini Diplomat nose warmer. Finding a full flavored mild tasting smoke. I am glad I am able to try this Plug. I have about 1 bowl left to savor. Thank you John for this experience.

Chilly 41F before daybreak with mixed weather reports for Kentucky Derby forecast. Local forecasters appear to think the race itself my be rain free. Main track at Churchill Downs can drain and dry quickly so hoping for the best this afternoon. First smoke is Uhle's #300 in an MM Mark Twain, drinking Trader Joe's coffee, Coast to Coast on the radio about to end in a few minutes.
