I know nobody so far seems to believe this, but I’m going out on a limb that Mac Baren blends will be safe. I could see many Sutliff aromatic blends going away, but I think they’ll do similar to what they’ve done with Peterson making all the Dunhill blends, with all the staple Mac Baren blends. STG seem to have a thing for Euro blends and nixing American companies so I could even see Sutliff mostly going away but all the Mac staying on. We shall see. This was from someone employed by them. - Hey guys... So the news is out. STG will be completely closing the production facilities of Mac Baren in Denmark and Sutliff. There also have been tough decisions made about the STG/Mac Baren/Sutliff Portfolio which I'm not at liberty to write about. So I'll only post what is publicly available at the moment. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts! We love y'all pipe smokers

After placing the order for Mac Baren last night, HU somehow already restocked this morning.

I’ve not tried that one, but it’s interesting they put “Made in Denmark” on that being a Sutliff blend. Was not aware the Denmark Mac Baren plant was making that? Although, I heard that Denmark makes some of Sutliff stuff, like the Virginia slices. I've heard from several sources that it's the same blend as Presbyterian Reformation. It's less mocha and more raspberry Lakeland. I hadn't tried this one before. I did have a tin of Reformation. I ordered a couple of ounces just to check it out.

Others I haven’t seen mentioned that will likely be going away:
Cobblestone tins are all made by Sutliff Newminster is a new line that released in 2012 produced by Mac Baren FOR STG Bengal Slices is Sutliff Warhorse Plug is Sutliff E. Hoffman Company is Sutliff Others have already mentioned, Presbyterian is Sutliff Three Nuns Capstan (mentioned) At least a couple others I’m missing here
and if this employee said tough decisions were made about STG lineup as well, that puts everything not C&D, Gawith’s, or K&K under the ax. This could be the tobaccolypse that we all thought would be the deeming regs. Conversely, I decided I would rather stock up next on C&D and Gawith as they’ll be under huge strain when all these STG/Sutliff/Mac Baren are gone. Only other stuff I really want from Mac Baren I guess is a few pounds of Navy Flake. I would like a put another large stack of War Horse bar in the cellar as well. I’ve decided all the rest of Sutliff and Mac Baren I can pretty much live without. Really sucks though turning the industry very monopolistic.
Super Value is Sutliff but let’s be honest, nobody at all smokes that already.

I am sorry that this is happening. Sutliff made some of my favourite tobaccos. Last night I ordered about 2 oz each of the following. Sutliff's: Eastfarthing, Molto Dolce, Chocolate Mousse, Z92 Vanilla Custard, Spiced Rum and Barbados Plantation. I know that the quantity is not much but I only smoke out doors when the weather is nice. During the winter I might try a Füm. Thank goodness for The Country Squire. It's so sad.

At first I thought that STG was simply consolidating, but now it sounds more like downsizing.

Even if all the Sutliff blends remain available, they will now be imports, which means the supply may become irregular and they'll be subject to tariffs.

Brian Levine said a long time ago and repeated very often: "Tobacco will never be as cheap or available as it is now" The inference is find what varietals you like, and cellar deep if your budget allows...sage advice, then and now.
I just feel bad for future generations...hoping that there might be a pipe tobacco renaissance going ahead.

Off topic, but who's that? A former employee of Dunhill, Peter Stokkebye, Smokingpipes, Brigham, and friends of every pipe tobacco and pipe maker on the planet. Currently host of Pipesmagazine radio show for umpteen years and Co-host of the Las Vegas Pipe show, Doctor of pipes, etc..

I may have enough Mixture/Scottish Blend to last until I light my last bowl, but I'd better put in an order just in case, and pick up a few tins of Navy Flake and Solent as well.

Well that all sucks...sure drops the hammer on in-store blends. This is why I say to inversely start stocking C&D. My B&M went from selling McClelland-based house blends, to Stokkebye, to Sutliff, and now all they will have left is Cornell & Diehl. All the B&Ms. Whenever the chips fall, all online retailers and B&Ms are going to have C&D, Gawiths, STG (whatever remains), and K&K. In America, only Cornell & Diehl will remain.
