I decided to thin down my cellar. I dont need 20+ pounds of pipe tobacco if I am only smoking about 2-3 times a month now (Heresy I know)
SO my question is whats the best way to sell off the bulk. The majority of my cellar is in tins
I got it sitting in jars but I really dont know how much is in each jar. I could buy a postal scale I guess and just weigh a mason jar and lid/band use that as the base line when i measure to get the net weight of the baccy inside.
I figure Pipestud can help me with the tins after I try the forums and reddit first.
I should have the list of what I have a list on sunday -minus the weights of the bulk as i dont own a scale now and the ages on the tins (to many to dig thru and look but I do have a document file of the contents of my cellar just not with me now.
I am not quitting just dramatically cutting back.

Not sure how you'd sell bulk fairly without weighing it. You could fill some empty tins and say, that's maybe about 50 grams, or post a pic of the jar next to a quarter for size and say make me an offer, but I think the only fair way to both you and the buyer is to have it weighed.

The bulk is tough as mentioned. You can get the old style non-digital scales off ebay for $5 or $10. Might be worth it if this is the only time you need a scale. Otherwise the digital versions are $20 or $30 iirc.

Doing the tare weight method is really the only way to do it... or do like the days of my mis-spent yute'... sell 4 finger lids.😀

Bulk you must unjar. You will do better salewise and mailing pint or quart jars is expensive and not safe. You can get an inexpensive digital scale on amazon or ebay that has both ounces and grams. Purchase some of the mylar baggies and weigh out in 50g increments or whatever amount is needed. Tins are self explanatory. Unless you have something rare or a tobacco people hanker after be realistic in pricing. Pipestud only wants the rare tobacco or stuff he can flip quick and he does take a percent. Bonus after it in his hands he does all the work. My advice take a chance here and on other forums first.

Like the concept and don't want to mess up anybody's Wheaties but you may wish to clear this with John or Justin prior to making any transactions. I'm sure trading is fine; however, outright selling could create potential issues and/or unwanted liabilities. |
