It is a good idea for us to be out and about smoking our pipes, for one it really is a conversation starter....a lot of pot-heads have winked and given me the thumbs up, and a lot of "seasoned citizens" speak fondly of someone in their past that smoked "that wonderful cherry blend" that they just loved. The other night, at about 2AM in the high desert at Chiriaco Summit, Ca. I was doing a pre-trip on my rig in a well lighted area, and as I came a round the back of the trailer I startled a black gentleman when he saw a pipe smoker with a tire knocker (think billy club) in my hand he kind of jumped, but when his eyes settled on the pipe, we engaged on a conversation where he shared that seeing a pipe smoker hearkened him back to a more gentler time when people were more thoughtful, and life moved at a more comfortable pace....he told me that I looked quite debonair... Well that is quite a stretch! Anyway, back to the point, while I really love the solitude of watching the sun set with just "Duke" at my side in the back yard, it is good to be out and about smoking my pipe to somewhat normalize it...I had one millenial that was fueling his car at a truck stop tell me that he had never seen a "live pipe smoker" only in the old movies has he seen a person smoke. I realize that the experiences that I share are not "lunting" and that lunting really is about going for a walk in the woods, but in a lot of the metropolitan and suburban places people live in, the designated walking areas that people like to get out and stretch the legs allow for interaction, and the people tend to give a positive reaction to a pipe smoker. Occasionally you might pass someone that acts like they are approaching a nuclear reactor as they assume wou will blow smoke in their face...but thankfully they are rare.

Good on you Maggie.
Got my letter in the mail a few weeks back.
Silly me, thought I was late to the party on this and that most people here were most surely already members.
I got mine after I noticed a posting from Aristocob on another site.

Thanks for sharing that, Lady M. I tried lunting around my block for a few weeks and only got three reactions. Another older black guy with a big cane-club smiled and waved, and was the only one who appeared to know what I was doing. A little kid walking home from school asked, 'Is that a pipe!?'. Not sure waht the heck else he thought it could be. And finally, a high school kid walked by me and appeared to be amazed I was smoking weed so out in the open.
It's funny, you pick what you think is your best looking pipe to lunt around the suburbs; your intention is not to seek solace, but to be an ambassador of the pipe.

When my wife and I walk the dogs on the weekends I often smoke a pipe, mostly cobs. But for some reason I seemed to have gotten more comments when I was "lunting" with a cigar year ago. Maybe it´s that Europeans are still used to the look of a guy with a pipe. I wear hats or caps too so they might think of me beeing just an old codger anyway...

I was made aware of the group when it was posted on the Aristocob Facebook page. I did a search but couldn't find a website for them. I think I finally found it through Instagram. Glad I could bring it to your attention! Enjoy

If all goes as planned. I'll be Lunting around London in 24 hours! Enjoy, Some good pipe shops in London (assuming you meant London, England). Beautiful city to Lunt in. And if the weather is anything like it is today, great weather to lunt in (just bring a pipe cap).
