Hubby and I were travelling back roads yesterday and we stopped for gas at a dinky little station in a remote town. This station had quite the selection of cigars and tobacco. I saw a small pouch with the name "Red Cap" it indicated it had been around for 95 years (the brand, not the pouch) I had never heard of it. Anybody here ever tried it?
They also had Largo Pipe Tobacco in three different blends. Haven't heard of that one either.

While Red Cap is not the greatest tobacco in the world, it is not as bad as everyone claims. It is a basic no frills tobacco that could fill the role of either pipe or roll your own. The Virginas are more on the hay side while the Burley does add a bit of taste. You can catch a little sweetness from the Cavendish in the No. 7 blend on occasion. It will bite in a second if puffed rapidly but a slow cadence and you will be fine. Due to its dryness it will burn fast. If used as a knockabout tobacco, such as something to keep in a car or toolbox, it has its place; reason being if you forget and leave it in the car/box overnight or a week, no damage will be done. It will taste the same.

there was actually a review on the tobacco review site and most of the reviewers were very hard on it. I did like the very first review listed (which I suspect was the most recent) and he pretty much said the same thing, it is a good no frills tobacco to smoke when your mind is occupied on other things, like lawn work or out on the river fishing. Said it was good to stash in the glove box or tackle box. Good to keep in mind. It was only 99 cents at the gas station.

Wow! I just now realized I did my first review. LOL! I am a bit slow on the uptake sometimes.

...Red Cap is still manufactured in a facility just NW of Nashville TN. No frills, very dry, won't age(I have some more than 30 years old and it taste the same today as it did when I bought it). When I do smoke it, I hydrate it for a bit as it takes on a less harsh taste and is a bit smoother ...
