Hello all, I recently acquired 29 jars of C.B. Perkins Tobacco... thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/1153/hello-name-dino-tadAs my other post indicates, my initial reason for buying these was to get the jars. But I've learned that all but 3 or 4 of the jars are over 1/2 full of tobacco. The seller, admittedly not a pipe smoker, shared with me that the tobacco was surprisingly moist. That's a good thing I hope. So, my questions are... 1. Has anyone heard anything about C.B. Perkins Tobacco blends? 2. Did they do the blending themselves or use someone elses services? 3. Any recommended sources or sites that I could research these on? 4. Any other knowledge or information on or about C.B. Perkins would be appreciated (Basically all I know about em is that the first store opened in Boston MA in the early 1900's and that they sold out to DES Tobacco Corp in 1986.) Thanks in advance. Dino

Thanks John, I gave em a call. Seems that each location (the few that remain) are all independent and get their tobacco from different companies. No house or proprietary blends it seems. So, looks like I'll be a smokin some "mystery weed", er, uhm "mystery tobacco".

I cant speak to CB perkins, but a lot of stores stock Eric Stokkebye blends and many times rename them, I think that is also the case with Lane tobacco products.
It might do you well to contact a few stores and ask to talk to their buyer, and explain your predicament...If they were a franchise type operation they probably shared the Vendor/re-brand information you seek.
I am guessing that most of the blends you have are aromatics...I had heard that 90% of pipe tobacco sold is aromatic, but you sure couldn't tell by cruising pipe smoker forums which makes sense I reckon....when I think of uncles that smoked aromatics, they werent the type of guys that would have anything to do with a pipe club, in person or (back in their day) a pen pal club for pipers.
