I bought the Barling, got a great deal on the Charatan, and the rest were gifts. The meer was made especially for me. Top to bottom: Pre-transition Barling EXEXEL pot. 1980s Big Ben pot. Late '70s Charatan "Special" pot. 1970s Jeantet paneled pipe. 2017 Turkish Meerschaum.

Sweet additions to your collection. Pretty incredible grain on the panel. Meer is very cool.

My friend Ismail from Turkish Meerschaum made and gifted me that pipe as a thank you for a long talk we had in Las Vegas about something personal. I didn't know what the shape was going to be, but he made one I really like.

I like that Big Ben best. All are nice though. M'lady agrees with you. The Big Ben has amazing grain, and being thirty years old, I was surprised it was unsmoked. A friend who was selling them at the show gifted it to me, knowing I was looking to add a few pots to my collection. It smokes great... even better than I expected, so I am quite pleased with it. This particular pre-transition Barling pot was a model I had wanted for years, and I finally found one in my price range. It's a great pipe.

He was a pretty cool guy to talk to, even though English is not his native tongue, he represented his vocation very well... heck of a nice guy.

Yo Jinx - great scores. Now I don't feel so bad about my Chi-PAD. Pots are highly under-rated these days. They sure develop the complexities in English mixtures.

Just out of curiosity Jim, what is your favorite pipe shape?

I don't have one particular favorite. It's more of a "What am I in the mood for?" attitude. Like deciding on what tobacco to smoke next. I like many shapes, and have favorite pipes. I like round bowls, but some times, the Canadian shape will speak to me more than a pot or an author. I've gone through a couple of phases: when I was in my late teens, early twenties, I preferred Oom Pauls. Then, it was freehands. I soon realized I liked having a variety of pipes just like I preferred to smoke a variety of blends. I know I'm not really answering your question, but I'm afraid I can't just pick one.

I completely understand, most of my pipes are in the Author, Bent Pot, Bent Apple, Bent Rhodesian family, which are all essentially variations on the same theme. However I do have examples of most pipe shapes in my collection, sometimes I'm in the mood for a Billiard or a Prince or Cherrywood shape etc.. I'm similar with tobacco, most of my favorites are Balkan/Heavy English, but I do keep various Virginias and several aromatics on hand for when the mood strikes me.
