My order from P/C arrived today and along with the few tins of tobacco and coffee I ordered was my first MM cob. I tried cheap cobs years ago and thought all cobs were just that..JUNK..Well today I am kicking myself for not trying MM cobs sooner!Well made..classy and budget friendly..whats not to like..now I will be chasing after a few cobs when I have extra cash!

Welcome to the party Mike MM cobs are definitely not junk, they're just cheap (MM would prefer I said inexpensive). Plus, they have a rustic charm, and can go where other pipes cannot: lose a five dollar cob while you're fishin' and you're more sorry about the aged Olaf's you can't get anymore. They require less maintenance, and are good for giving to folks wanting to try pipe smoking. There really isn't a downside; if you can't afford a stable of Dunhills, pad your rotation with cobs. Also, they have a cool history; what's not to like?

This thread reminded me that I have a 1950ish unsmoked MM Corndog some place. May I should give it a test drive to see how it smokes.

Mike, it´s never too late to see the light! In my early pipe smoking years I thought corn cobs were no more than a cheap gag and no proper pipes. Now I have 18 and can´t get enough. I would easily part with my briars but being without a corn cob? Never! @sammy: A 1950ish unsmoked corn dog? Wow, that´s big dollars by now!

Plus you get a free Aristocob tamper (oversize yellow imprinted golf tee) with each pipe.

Got it a couple years ago for $25.00. Had no idea what it was, just thought it looked interesting. People at MM told me it was from the late forties to the early fifties. It sat in a pipe rack for a long time then got moved to a box of pipes I no longer smoke. Maybe some day it will be worth enough that I will be able to trade it for one of those crazy pipes Ser Jacopo puts out. I love the ones that look like two pieces wired together. LOL....like the song says "dream the impossible dream."

After reading this before and thinking who wants to smoke a 1950's CORN DOG..I went outside to cook dinner and once I washed the grill spatter from my glasses I re-read your post and saw it was not a 1950's CORN DOG!! silly me!

Those pipes show up at Ebay around $350.00! If I thought I could get $200 for it would have already been listed. I seriously doubt they actually sell for that much.

I saw one listed for $350.00 but you may be right. One needs to wait for that buyer who is hellbend to find one for his collection. Recently I saw a video of the Mecum Auction where a collection of muscle cars was sold. It gave me the feeling that nothing ever can be too expensive these days. There is always the guy with way too much money on his hands willing to part with it.

I was born in 1960...to approach 1950 corndog territory I think one needs to look to papipeguy vintage.
