The tangy, ripe dark fruity, earthy, woody red Virginia takes a lead over the lighter Virginia, and also sports a little sugar. The light Virginia provides a bit of citrus, light grassiness, and a couple pinches of spice and a bare hint of floralness. The proportions of the Virginias vary from flake to flake, so there is a small inconsistency in how you will perceive the inherent flavors of the tobaccos. Having written that, it should be noted that they meld fairly well, and you’ll observe every nuance in every puff to one degree or another. There is a very slight hint of “vinegar” from the tobaccos that barely make their way into the experience, and very quickly disappears. Although this manufacture isn’t as deep in flavor as some other McClelland Virginia offerings, there’s a couple subtleties present that some of them lack. The nic-hit is just past the mild mark. The strength level is a couple steps shy of the center of mild to medium, while the taste almost reaches that threshold. No chance or bite or harshness exists here. The product is a little moist, but it needs no dry time. Burns cool, clean and a little slow as flakes tend to do, but they are easily broken apart to suit your packing preference. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires some relights. Has a pleasant, lightly lingering after taste. Can easily be an all day smoke. Has great age potential. Three and a half stars out of four rounded up to four.

Thanks Jim, I was wondering about this blend since JD (Country Squire Radio) spoke about it at the Chicago pipe show.

I don't follow your reviews Mr. Inks, but commend you for taking up your time to help folks. I am of the thumbs up or thumbs down school and it has worked for over 30 years of cigar and pipe smoking. I either like or or I don't.
My question to you, do you ever go back and do another review at 5 years, 10 years and so on.
Regards DAVE

I certainly do a lot of that. In fact, I had grown increasingly dissatisfied with all my earlier reviews, and from Sept., 2016 to January of this year, rewrote in part or entirely, nearly all my reviews dated before 2016, and edited others. I left very few, if any, untouched from that time period of reviews. It's an on going process. Many times, I have smoked a blend, noticed something different that I didn't catch before or play up - whatever the circumstance was, minor or major - and revised the review. In fact, I did three just this past week or so. If I didn't mention the nicotine level, or given enough description on how the minor components interact with the more prominent ones, I'd revise. Sometimes, I changed my mind regarding the strength and taste levels, and there have been some blends I re-rated.
As I go along and smoke more blends, I learn more about these things. My ideas about strength and taste levels have changed some since I started reviewing, so I update to reflect my current thinking.

On a more serious note, I am more in the camp with herbinedave. I know if I like it and I know if I dont. Sometimes the blend is middle of the road. I rely on and appreciate folks like jiminks who keep me informed with their more intricate reviews.

Yeah...but that is an aromatic...if English archaeologist Howard Carter had found an aromatic in King Tut's tomb back in 1923, it would be just as fresh as when King Tut was wrapped up.
