Here are my go-to daily pipes. Sometimes I also use the pipes I have tucked into the 2-pipe cases that I take outdoors with me.

they are tucked away at the moment, I take them to pipe club and use them for other "special" occasions. I'm waiting for hubby to put up a shelf so I can put my two nice pipe racks on and will put the other pipes on those.

Can't see pics at work for some reason. However, I just wanted to say that I do the same thing ... daily rotation separate from a collection of more "special pipes".

cobs take less maintenance and I don't mind them getting knocked around a bit. Want to keep my briars safe and looking brand new

I am careful with my expensive pipes. Never fill to the rim, always clean them well after they have cooled, store in a sock in the dark. Mine look as good as they did the day I bought them (minus the inner bowl). My garage pipes are there for a reason - beat them to death who cares. Most of my pipes fall in the middle and get treated more like my expensive ones. 30 seconds of work after a smoke but they are stored out in the open. They still look well cared for, smoke well for me, and that is all that matters.

You've come a long way in a very short time. Good for you. As for your "better" pipes, use them. That's why you got them so enjoy them when you can.

I have no problems with cobs, matter of fact I smoke them on occasion. I spose what I meant is pipes are meant to be smoked, not sitting on a fancy shelf or in a drawer.

I've heard about him. Does he sell anywhere other than ebay, because last time I checked he didn't have anything listed. that's been almost two months ago.

I just bought a cob and love it! It will be my go to pipe when I take my son deer hunting..(if i can manage it) and for the wet days when I take my son shooting. My more treasured pipes are for enjoying in the back yard or while fishing.

As with all things pipe related ... to each their own and YMMV. There's nothing wrong with designating a few pipes as "special". I have an Easter pipe that I only smoke on Easter! LOL

doesn't it create a kind of fun anticipation, like waiting for Christmas as a kid? at least that's how I see it.

I also smoke a lot of cobs. I usually only smoke one briar per day. Question: how do you avoid burning the rims of cobs? And why? Here are my go-to daily pipes. Sometimes I also use the pipes I have tucked into the 2-pipe cases that I take outdoors with me.

Avoiding burning the inner bowl rim takes just a bit of practice with your aim, and so does drawing in your flame while hovering lightly over the top of the load with a brief tight circular motion. NEVER use a cigar torch - TOO HOT and will quickly over-scorch and trash your precious tobacco.

I use an angled lighter so it helps get the flame right in the bowl, and I like non-burnt rims because I'm OCD and was also recommended not to at my first pipe club meeting

I checked it out, and they were all briars I'll keep checking back, though.

You will need to check every day because when he puts up a cob it always goes fast. I love mine!
